Poll question: What's the most tired subject line at DU?
Edited on Mon Oct-06-03 02:15 AM by AP
Although I appreciate that it's important to keep a post kicked up to the front page, there are the occassional messages which grate on me like finger nails on chalkboard just because they come up so often.

I know people have good inentions when they do this, however, in the interest of getting DU'ers to drop a few cliches and maybe try to get a little more creative, I ask people:

Which of these subject lines would you like to see less of:

(I'll add any good suggestions)

1. Oh my god! You gotta see this!
So my freeper friend said...
(any one word title)

These have been addressed by the new GD rules, though. (This one's not a subject line ;-))

2. Having just posted a drip, Drip, DRIP of my own.....
.....I'll go with the xxxxxx should stay out of small planes!
(Sorry about the chalkboard effect!)

Could you add posts about what they just said at FreeRepublic, Faux and Drudge? :)

4. Another annoying one
is the Sarcastic Pique thread, from the guy who's frazzled by his candidate's day in the box, so he trumps all the critical threads:

Clark Deep-fries Kittens!

Dean Has Toddlers Buried Under His Driveway!

5. I'd love to add that one, but there's a glitch with the software here...
...every time I try to update the poll, a couple of the choices drop out so I have to cut and past them back in from a second window.

I'm getting too sleepy to do that over and over.

8. You forgot the most annoying...
"*insert name* will be on Nighline"
"Buchanan and Company will be featuring *insert* name"
"*insert* name handed Russert his Ass"
"C-SPAN is replaying *insert* name's speech"
"Right NOW...*insert* name is on Hannity"

I think everyone has fond memories of being a teenager and getting a phone call from your best friend, saying, 'Hey flip it to channel 6'

I wish these 'plugs' for the media would disappear and ONLY links to transcipts in their place...
It might actually profit a media company to play someone to troll boards and 'advert' their programs ... I would if I were running a media PR/sniffer service

The following thread subjects are indicators of felt powerlessness. Sorry. If you want to make a difference, turn off your damn TV (it's okay to watch the ostensible news, but don't bother with the "commentators"), stop reading the Freepers, and use your computer to print political literature for distribution to your friends and neighbors. Start a discussion or reading group on political issues with people in your area, with the goal of doing real political actions:

OMG, I can't believe what (insert RW commentator) just said on TV...

Hurry, hurry, turn on your TV! I can't believe what (insert) just said!!!

Freepers are writing something stupid/violent/barbaric on Oh-So-MajorTrafficFreepSiteCom! We must act now by deploring it pointlessly on this thread!!!

Hurry, hurry, unfreep this meaningless online poll!!!

How shameless can (insert RW commentator) get?

How dare (Drudge/Lucianne/Freep/Rush/Tweety/whoever) SAY such a thing?!

Ha! Turn on your TV and watch (LW Hero) DESTROY (Ann Coulter/Wolf Blitzer/Whoever)

Stop the presses! Fox is lying!!!

I'm SOOOO depressed because (insert) said... and nobody objected!!!

--------------------------------
This one also annoys me:

"Stay off small planes..."

Especially when directed at particular members of DU for some insightful post (or otherwise). I believe there have been more assassinations than we are privy to, but I doubt there's any big effort (yet) to eliminate Internet users who do open-source research.

13. The ones that piss me off most:
Edited on Mon Oct-06-03 05:19 AM by Padraig18
"Candidate X (Saves the Democratic party/Is the only *real* Democrat/Has met 'his/her' fundraising goal/)", and

"How can anyone NOT support candidate X?"

On edit: This latter is inevitably met with flames/near-flames should one have the unmitigated GALL to answer the question (or implied question). :eyes:

14. Outrageous accusations with a "?" on the end like
Does Dean eat babies?

Is Kerry evil because he belongs to Skull and Bones?

Did Clark slaughter children?

It is an attempt to flame a candidate with no facts and plant doubt in peoples minds to turn away from a candidate. Kark Rove tactics.

17. Yeah!
The whole 'electability' thing is being beaten to death, too; we ALL have an opinion about Candidate X or Y's electability and are unlikely to change that opinion, so GIVE IT A FREAKIN' REST, FFS! :eyes:

It just pisses me off because when I tried to do it, not one person begged me to stay.

So I'm never leaving -- you got that -- NEVER LEAVING!!!

But hate the "turn on CSPAN now" threads. They at OBE (overtaken by events) almost immediately.

:-)

I would like to mention one of my favorite thread titles and inital post. I wish I could remember the author and maybe someone here will recall.

Remember when Rummy said something along the lines of us not being able to find Saddam's weapons was proof that he had them? Anyone remember the post entitled: Rummy is a child molester/pedophile (not sure which) and their inital post said: I have no proof of this therefore it must be true. Discuss. Hahahaha! I thought that was pretty damn witty which leads me to my next point. I love some of the very witty thread titles around here. Some days I can just scroll the thread titles and get a pretty good laugh.

Thanks to all who make DU a fun and informative place.

Julie
