Coffe and doughnuts now being served in the Grotto!
The heat's been off for a while, and the hot tub is a cold tub. But let's get the power on, and get the morning festivities going!

Bright, flavorful Italian Roast for y'all, and some chocolate eclairs (by request ;-) )and maple bars. Dig in and have fun!

don'tcha? Bringing me eclairs. *shakes head* ;-)

Oh well, whatever blows wind up your skirt.

Ask me about my weekend and we'll sit here and cuddle and sip on something hot to warm our toes and I'll tell you all about it.

Okay, cutie, tell me about your weekend. But please allow me to scoot out of here in about half an hour. Got to take my car in for service. I'll be back in a jiffy, bearing more eclairs.

3. I went up to Dallas...
for the last of my birthday celebrations. My guy best friend made me homemade pecan pie and we went to the State Fair and I got corny dogs and rode the rides and saw the new cars and lots of cows. :-)

Saturday night we went to the Grambling vs. Prairie View A&M football game and I got to see the bands. It was amazing. Grambling was as good as advertised and I had always wanted to see them in person. But I gotta say...Prairie View's band was even better. :-)

I think I only saw maybe a half dozen other white people at the game but no one in the stands around us made an issue out of us white folks busting into their party. In fact the folks around us were incredibly nice. Caught lots of smiles at my obvious enthusiasm for finally getting to see the game in person. :-) (They show it on local tv every year and I grew up watching it.) The atmosphere in the stands was really neat. The Grambling and Prairie View fans teased each other a little bit but everybody seemed to be having a great time.

Have to say, people should go to games for historically black colleges. If they don't then they don't know what they're missing. It was a lot of fun. :-)

I just looked at the estimate for 30,000 mile service for my car. :wow: Looks like I'll have to put it on the credit card!

Anyway, it looks like you had fun in the Grotto while I was gone. Iced coffee for all those who want it.

Now tell me more about the migrating butterflies, Vel.

21. They were beautiful
We rode the train from my best friend's house to the pick up point for the State Fair shuttle bus down at CityPlace station in Dallas. When we got in line I was just kind of looking around and I saw a monarch butterfly flit by. I ooh-ed and ahh-ed and took a picture (later lost when the batteries in my digital cam crapped out...grr). Anyway, my best friend teased me for a bit about it. I was having an inner-child, wonder of the universe around me kind of moment and he loves to tease me about those.

Anyway, all of a sudden there's another butterfly...and another and another and another. That's when it dawned on me that it's time for them to migrate to Mexico for the winter. All told I probably saw a hundred at different points during the day. They were beautiful and a wonderful gift from teh universe.

My best friend is always trying to convince me to do more things spontaneously and this trip was an example of that. I listened and got to see the butterflies. :-)

23. That sounds beautiful. I wish I could have seen that.
But then, here inthe Northwest we have a surfeit of beautiful scenery. The mountains, the trees, the lakes, etc. etc. I'm pretty lucky. Now if we can just keep the loggers away from the old-growth, we'll be okay.

your neck of the woods sound awfully pretty too. I'd love to see teh old-growth forrest before it's gone (keeps fingers crossed that that day never gets here).

Sorry to hear the car maintenance is so expensive. What did they tell you needed to be done and have you considered getting a second opinion?

27. Well, it's the usual stuff for the 30,000 mile service.
Complete system flush, brake inspection, safety inspection, lube-oil and filter, yadda, yadda, yadda. And it's the dealership, not some independent place. If you get independent service, it could invalidate the warranty. This is the first new car I've ever owned, so I want it running like a top. Oh well, better money spent now than down the road, when it's older and creakier.

28. OK, I'm confused...
if you get the lube, oil, filters, and inspections done somewhere else it would void the warranty? That's insane.

29. No, but the system flush, coolant and that sort of thing will.
The warranty has actually come in handy on several occasions, so I don't want to lose it.

I love my Cruiser, but as many recalls as it has had, not to mention breaking down in the California desert, makes me want to go back to Nissans when I trade it in.

30. Makes you wonder though...
whatever happened to the days when a car being under warranty meant you didn't have to pay when you took it into the dealership for service. *sigh*

I have some rage I'm honing about what happened Friday with my apartment office and my package from UPS. Want me to go kick someone's ass on your behalf. :-)

The Chrysler Service shop has treated me very well, actually. They've got good people working for them. Truth is, I'd rather have them working on my car than Joe Carburator from Cucamanga. Chryslers are their business.

40. Ok, I ordered these amazing...
fuck-me shoes online a couple of weekends ago. Mary Janes with enormous heels. Very cool.

So, last Thursday I get on ups.com to check on their status and it says they're gonna be delivered on Friday. While I'm not home of course. :-) So I call the UPS 1-800 number to see if I can change the delivery address to my work - NO. Or have them delivered to the office - NO. Or set it up where I just come pick them up at the UPS office - NO. They tell me I can't do anything til they've made the first delivery attempt.

Well, I whined about it to a friend and he said "leave a note on the door for them to deliver them to your apartment office and see if the driver will do it". So I did. And then I called the office in the morning to ask them to take the package and put it in my apartment and they said they would. I'm never home when the office is open so this was kind of important since I wanted to wear the shoes on my trip.

Anyway. I call the office about 3:45 to see if my package has come in. The guy in teh office (different person from the one I talked to in the morning) says he doesn't see them but if UPS come swith them they'll put them in the apartment.

I get off work. I go home. There's a note from UPS on the door that they delivered the package to the office. I open the door. The shoes aren't in my apartment. I'm livid.

So, I call on Saturday to make sure they actually left them at the office. The guy in the office says he doesn't see them. So, I let it go and go to the Fair and have a good time.

Anyway, I get home. I call UPS and they tell me they delivered the package at 1:32 on Friday afternoon. So, I call the office this morning. Talk to another new person. They look and lo and behold there are my shoes. *ARGH* What the fuck do I pay these people for? My shoes were there the whole time. I hate my apartment people. They're utterly fucking useless. Grr...
