Advice from DU please and dont laugh!!

Here it goes. A lot of trees came down due to Isabel. Saturday I get a friends truck to get some limbs that fell for my fireplace. I let my friend know that he can have some for borrowing his truck. I remind him that I am not sure exactly what kind of shape the wood is but definently needs to be cut to size and seasoned. Well I get the wood and take his truck back and attempt to explain that the wood needs work. He gets all bent out of shape cause he did not get wood cut, seasoned and delivered to his stoop. ( MInd you he did not offer any help). Should I be upset back, tell him where he can put the wood. Take a limb over and say I got your wood, have fun with a chain saw. Just curious?

Put an add in the paper, or on a local bulletin board, offering the wood to anybody that will pick it up.
Then remove this guy from your friend's list.

as if you don't have enough to do already. Find out how much it cost to rent a truck for a day - pay him

not much you can do about the seasoning part, though.

Life's too short. you could have rented a truck for $20. what he's expecting (a truck-load all cut up and delivered?) goes for around $90 up in these parts.

when you returned his truck, cut up wood should have been in the back. Bringing back his truck without the wood was wrong.

You should cut some wood for him and let him know if he brings his truck over you will help him load it.

Just kidding. Did he think said wood seasoned on the tree?

I would get pissed off right back at him.

then give him $10 for using his truck.

If he does not realize that this wood will not be ready to burn for at least a year, then there is good chance he doesn't need it.

If he doesn't realize the work involved in cutting (and chopping) wood for fireplace use, there is a good chance he doesn't need it.

helped in the first place. He chose to sit on his ass and let you use his truck to load wood. He could have helped if he wanted a cord of lovely wood - give him gas money.

I told him I just need to cut the limbs into fire wood first. The shortest peice is about six feet long. No problem there, I plan too. When it is cut I plan on bringing him some. I just got whizzed off due to his attitude.

Seriously, don't let this get out of control. The friendship is more important than who gets the wood in what condition or who borrowed who's truck. Hey, when Polly and I went to Detroit this weekend for my b'day (47, thanks), we used Andy the Right Wing Republican's $24,000 Chrysler. He asked me to get the oil changed, I didn't, and he has yet to say anything about it (I doubt he will).
Now, Andy and I will fight for hours (lord) about politics. But we never argue about stuff like money and possessions.
Cut the wood and give him some. And offer him $20 for using the truck -- I doubt he'll take it.

You have given him something for which a lot of people pay money, but the only way he got it was loaning you the truck, but if you had hired someone to come clear your yard, you would have been out major bucks. I have a friend that doesn't like to be on the receiving end of usable size wood; he likes getting an unwieldly size hunk of wood and working it down himself. Offer to cut your friends wood for him, 'cause he's done you the bigger favor. Just my 2c.

I would leave the pile of limbs in his truck and say: "Hey, this is what I said you'd get."

Tell him the wood's fine. Just put it in the fireplace and light a match. It'll burn.
