can someone help me hook mine up? Or provide the instructions how to do it?

Yeah I know DirecTV is the epitome of evil, but Rupert Murdoch doesn't own it (yet).

It depends on how you have the Direct TV setup to begin with.

It also depends on which version of the Direct TV box you are using. On earlier models the coaxal cable out would not put a signal out unless you were using the coaxal cable in for the satellite signal. In other words, if you were using composite cables for your signal to the TV you would see problems with the coaxal cables to the VCR.

My current setup is Satellite in to the box; S Video cable to the VCR/DVD combo; S video cable out of the VCR to the TV. Replace S Video with Composite as needed, or with coaxal if you are still running electronic components from the 70s ;P

so you're saying I should run out and buy a S video cable? My TV is a 2000 model, and the DVD/VCR combo is a 2003 model (we bought it this year)....

The DTV receiver model is a 5th generation model - RCA brand.

BTW, does this hookup enable PnP to work correctly - my RCA TV has a WAY cool PnP that includes captioning!

I would man.

I ran on composite for a long time because I didn't want to shell out the cash for the S Video cables. I finally gave in (too much time in Radio Shack) and the difference is amazing. Just make sure that ALL of the components in the chain support S-Video. If you have to switch off to composite anywhere in the chain, you lose a lot of the enhancements.

The other option is to run just your Satellite box directly to the TV - and then run the VCR from the Satellite to the VCR. In theory, if you have it set up right, the VCR should record what is being shown on the TV; but I like having the full follow through of signal to be sure of what I am getting on tape.

Nothing sucks worse than going to watch my show and find out I recorded four hours of Animal Planet kid programing.

EDIT - You should be fine on the Direct TV receiver. Once they got past the first couple of rounds, they ironed out that coaxal problem. Was a pain before they did though.

As for PnP, I am clueless. I think you need two totally separate input signals to run PnP, but I very well could be wrong. You'll want to get another guru to clue you in there ;)

5. I do..
I've been trying to get it to work.

So far I'm staring at the 2 Fast 2 Furious stuff on my TV -- that's what's in my DVD player.

(Good movie, btw)

2. Don't klnow if this is what you are looking for.....
But take the output wire from the Direct TV box and connect to the input on your VCR and then connect the output from the VCR into the TV...
If you want to take it a step farther, I've got the stereo hookups going from the Direct TV box into the stereo inputs in my VCR....then plugged into the Stereo...
Hope this helps

which is good enough for me -- it's also similar to FSTV.
