Arnold elected? What is CA smoking?
What is going on? A body builder turned Action film star is now qualified to handle the most complicated state in the nation? California is the size of a small country, with a massive economy and major problems.
How is Arnold going to deal with it? He is not raising taxes and he is not cutting services--so what gives? That is what he said--no tax hikes and no service cuts. At least people like McClintock or Pete Camejo said exactly what their plan was--Arnold told the voters nothing.
And if California is in such bad straights, why did people think that fighting the govenor and launching a neo-insurgency that further complicated the problem was a good idea? How could Gray Davis be expected to deal with issues when he was being attacked daily and fighting for survival?
And if Bush wasn't crippling the nation with defecits, we could have helped California with their problems.

All in all, California just did something very bizarre. I am just glad I live in a more stable state, with a bankable democrat majority--Maryland.

3. Stupid, stupid people
If they don't have more sense than to elect a Ken doll, of whose policies and plan they know nothing, to be their governor, maybe they got the leader they deserve. The state has serious problems and rather than deal with them maturely and rationally, they elect the Terminator. Do they think he's gonna pull out an Uzi and blow away the budget crisis? Stupid. When Californians start whining about how lousy things are/and have become under Gov. Moran, remind them that they elected the idiot.

Let's lock up CA and throw away the key.

4. Zuni, your logic is impeccable; unfortunately, nothing in CA is logical...
I know, I've lived here all my life.

At the moment, I am too stunned to make any sense of this self-fouling of the nest by Californians. I am just speechless with shame and anger.

20. I've always loved California
I also grew up here, and have lived in the Bay Area all my life, and I just don't have any words to say to express my disbelief. Are all the progressives located in the Greater Bay Area???

7. Watch out for your "bankable democrat majority", Zuni
Isn't Maryland still rolling out those unauditable, papertrailless, PC voting machines, in spite of the Johns Hopkins research (and BevHarris et als.) that said the machines, and the companies selling them were shady?

9. Incompetence no longer matters to voters.
I think the election of Shrub proved to the nation that you can elect a real idiot and now worry about it, because he'll have "people behind him" who can run the show. The candidate is just a figurehead who is propped up before the cameras every once in a while and told what to say. the Party matters now, not the candidate.

11. Before I puked on the floor last night,
I watched bits of the CNN coverage of the election and saw the most amazing statistic I had ever seen!

Bill Schneider was "crunching the nimbers" of the exit polls and showed a graphic which displayed voter answers to the question :
Did Arnold address the issues of the State?

64% that's 64% of the people who voted for him said NO !!

Un...f-ing...believeable.........

I saw that too.

I couldn't fucking believe it! I thought it was bad enough when Minnesota elected Jesse Ventura. But this?

You get what you deserve...

12. Help me here
They've been telling us all along that California is in one of the biggest fiscal crisis ever so what happens. The elect someone with virtually no applicable experience in public servixe other than to look pretty. He hasn't a hint of a plan as far as I know. And this is their savior.

And what is the logic behind this? Uhh! Because he, like, saved Jamie Lee Curtis in True Lies.

14. California will reap what it sows...
Competance means nothing anymore. Look at 2000. Gore was clearly the better qualified candidate and should have won in a walk. Instead it's a popularity contest. I feel like I'm in high school.

I wonder how long it will take before Californians realize Arnold isn't the solution.

badly enough so my fellow Californians learn their much-needed lesson. Bleh.

And I'm scared to find out about Prop. 54.

17. I wouldn't vote for Arnold
but how does being a body builder and movie star automatically make him not qualified to handle the problems in California?
