I am boycotting California
Every year for the past several years, we have taken a week's vacation in California to go wine tasting. We stay in the top hotels and buy lots and lots of wine.

However, I simply cannot stomach contributing my hard earned tourist dollars to Governor Groper's economy.

Looks like we'll be wine tasting in Europe for the time being!! Sigh, that makes me sad, I love the Bay Area!!

But then again Europe might be pretty cheap.

10. yeah...
but -- except for Oregon's pinot noirs -- they can't hold a candle to California's quality and variety. Who could not love California? By itself; apart from politics. California is part of all of us as Americans. It weathered Ronald Reagan, it can weather Ahnold. But there's no way not to love California. Damn your boycott!

21. I know you did
It's the frustration talking. I love California so much, I feel really sad for the state right now. And angry at the apparently large number of morons that live there!! Interesting thread in GD I think though about how Arnold probably got only about 10% of the total possible registered vote.

6. Thanks
That's a few thousand bucks less coming into the state next year. Enough folks do the same, and we're talking millions, maybe billions -- and before you know it, I'll br unemployed for the rest of my life.

Yep, really hit us where it hurts -- the Bay Area, which voted overwhelmingly to defeat the recall.

Grand idea!

Thanks for your support.

Well, maybe I'll limit my tourist activites to San Francisco and environs.

7. Hang on a sec...
Look at this map...

As you can see, the area in the red did their best (including the region where you would go wine tasting) not to let this travesty happen.

And so now you want to punish them for that?

11. Wow, interesting
That looks like the more populous areas of the state in the red. In fact I didn't know too many people lived inland comparatively speaking. San Diego went yes of course. Where is LA on that map??

So can I revise my boycott? I'll only go to "red" counties.

19. That argues for good GOP turnout
Don't you think that the turnout in the green areas must have been higher to get those final tallies?

See, that is what I think we really need to focus on for 2004! Get out the vote among Democrats. Part of the problem seems to be uninspiring candidates. We have 4-to-1 registered Democrats in Philly for example, and yet there is talk that the Republican mayoral candidate could win, because the incumbent is so "unpopular" that the Dem voters will stay home. The Repugs get their voters to the polls, and we're stuck with a Bush ass-kisser in the city hall. There is even a movement among Dems to support the GOP challenger because he is promising to cut the city wage tax faster than our curent mayor. It's like NSMA was talking about, the party is divided, and in need of inspiration!

Ok, sorry, that was too heavy for the Lounge :-)

34. Not many people live inland?
More than 10 million Californians live east of the coastal mountain ranges, over a third of the states population. We're spread out over a larger area which can give the appearance of a relatively empty region, but we do comprise a large voting population that usually gets overlooked by the politicians.

Despite the fact that nearly every inland county in California has a Democrat majority, the Democratic leadership usually ignores us in favor of L.A. and the Bay Area. They then get "upset" when the majority stays home and the Republicans win. Rather than concentrating so much time and money on areas that are already solidly under the party's control, the state Democratic party needs to shift its focus to the inland areas and OUR needs.

36. The picture gets clearer.
You are right of course, 10 million people shouldn't be ignored but I did say comparatively. Almost 10 million people reside in the Los Angeles area alone... yet they decided no.

18. I can't blame anyone for voting
This is not a matter of blaming the voter, this is a question of tatics. I think this signals all of us that don't subscribe to the GOP BS to redouble our efforts and share our beliefs in every venue possible.Anytime you hear people slamming your party,Speak Out. I have been in two altercations and thrown out of a couple of bars for not backing down, and I live BTW in the nesting ground of Ralph Reed/Newt Gringrich/and Bob Barr. So you know if I have the courage to do it here, you certainly should be able to do it anywhere. I can not understand what is wrong with the Democratic Heaveyweights and why they aren't making in roads into the talk radio media. They had better get their act together or the party will be a memorey in 5 years or less......

27. The map is telling
The denser populated areas with the exception of San Diego, Orange County, Calabasas does a pretty good job of looking after themselves to keep the GOP out.

How does the message get out to everyone else there? Clear Channel? Fox? CNN? Hmmm.

39. As I see it, it's no different than attitudes about the South
The true Dems of Cali failed to turn out. What can we conclude? That Cali is turning into a red state? Maybe not yet. But the voters of Cali, for whatever reason, failed miserably. Those who voted for the porn queen, those who voted for Gary Coleman, those who voted for Gallagher, those who wasted their precious vote like it was a joke or something voting anything other than NO on the recall ...

What can we say? California let us down. The DLC let us down. And now California has to live with Gov. Gangbang.

Now you know how it feels when the intelligencia was putting down us Southerners.

For what it's worth, I feel your pain. And I fear it's coming here in the governor's race, with Haley the Pig Barbour in Mississippi.

We all do what we can.

I was a Florida absentee voter in the 2000 selection,so I understand the pain of all the good California people who tried to prevent this unfortunate thing from happening. I'm sure not going to add to their pain. Plus,California will come through for us in 2004...and that is beyond important.

25. Just a reminder
that California still has a Democrtic Lt. Governor, Attorney General, Treasurer, State Controller, 2 Senators, Congressional Minority Leader, 33 of 53 House Representative seats, 25 of 40 State Senate Seats, 48 out of 80 State Assembly seats and 3 of 5 Board of Equalization seats.

But let's forget all that and concentrate ONLY on Arnold, shall we? :eyes:

California is a wonderful state and a significant fraction of the entire U.S. economy. Boycotting it would just be 'cutting of our nose to spite our face'.
