4. Oh sure
You don't have to sleep next to a depressed, grumpy Yankee fan tonight.

Seriously though (I'm neutral and think the Sox deserve a shot) so BIG CONGRATS to all the Red Sox fans out there! :toast:

15. that guy was his own SNL Skit.
he describes the kid reaching out as if his arms were two inches long, then they show the replay and the young fan seems to be scaling the foul pole.

A+ for unintentional comedy.

14. He was lieing!!!!
He sdaid that if the fan didnt touch the ball it would have went foul. If you watch the replay you'd see the ball hit the foul pole and the fans hand at the same time.
Yankees fans cheat ala Jeffery Maier. Little shit!

31. LMAO-Too Funny
I Unmuted the TV (I listen to WEEI instead of the nauseating FAUX sports announcers) to see the fun that the announcers were having at Ed Hillel's expense.

11. One down...
At the very least, you want a split in the visitors house. Negates home field advantage.

Mission Accomplished. Go Sox!

32. Pedro has never lost a post-season game-Roger has (I was THERE in '99)
The Sox roughed up Clemens this year, so don't be so confident that they won't repeat the performance, especially at Fenway.

17. It was much more than that. (.02)
you had the Yankees Ace beaten by the Red Sox #3 pitcher. Mussina was feeling the heat and it got to him. He never issues walks and hardly ever gives up HR's. And thats what won the game.

Now the Sox need to take it to 'em thursday night. Nothing to lose tomorrow. Very dangerous situation for the Yankees if they don't play well out of the gate tomorrow.

19. You around in '86?
Sox took the Mets through that very same "dangerous situation" then.
Boyd and Nipper took care of the 2 game lead at Fenway until Hurst put the hurt on the Mets in game 5. I can't go on anymore, you know the rest....

34. I was 16 in '86
its not relevant to what happened last night. There is no real comparison to be made.

Wakefield and Burkett or Suppan are miles above Nipper and Boyd. It's not even comparable.

Sox took the First two from the Mets with 1+2 starters. That was my whole point. The Yanks could go down 0-2 to 3 and 2, with Pedro waiting in the wings.

I am not afraid of "TCOTB" its become somewhat of a crutch for Yankee fans more than anything.

This series is a long way from over but it off to an excellent start if you are a Red Sox fan.

35. The most important difference is that Grady Little
is NO McNamara. (Man what a shitty manager- the '86 team succeeded DESPITE him.) I didn't mean to rain on the parade here, 'just a Sox fan tendency. :)

36. no rain on me!
I was trying to show the glaring difference. We as fans need to believe in the positive outcome for a change.

Now imagine in '86 if the sox came home from Shea up 2-0 with Hurst Scheduled to go in game three....

If the Sox win tonight. It's Pedro time to do just that!

25. Yeah Bay-by!

I figured of all 6 or 7 games, this was the one the Sox would get blown out in. But we seem to have lost our typical Sox team this year; they were normal until August 15, when they rather unusually decided to play hard rather than blow hard.

I 'blame' Theo Epstein and Grady Little for not providing the usual shitty management behavior in August and September which always led to the top players mailing it in around the middle of August, bitching to the press in early September, and preparing for off-season contract backroom donnybrooks in late September. Getting rid of the Yawkeys- who always put second and third raters into management- was the best thing that ever happened to this franchise.

So I am pleasantly surprised. I expected a 7-1 loss tonight, but Tim Wakefield and Embree and Williamson were a lot better on than I expected.

I do want to see Luis Rivera try to pitch against Ramon Martinez sometime this series with the game on the line. Rivera is living off Zito-esque sinkers and sliders; Ramon is a patient man who puts any sinker or fastball he sees for the third time in a game into the outfield stands.

26. congrats Sox . . . you stole one . . .
Moose wasn't sharp tonight, and the Yanks couldn't hit Wakefield's lob balls . . . tis but a single game, however, and there is much more baseball to be played . . . the Yankee bats will come alive . . . I hope . . . anyhow, nice win . . . if you guys can take out my Yankees, I'll root for you against the Cubbies . . . have lots of friends in New England, and it would be nice if they actually had something to cheer about . . . I'm still predicting a Yankee victory, however, in six or seven . . . whatever the outcome, it should be a great series that any baseball fan will appreciate . . .

33. I read a lot of stories this AM but this one was hilarious
"...Wakefield allowed only two baserunners until the seventh inning. His knuckleball was dancing so much that it would have been forbidden in at least six states and by several religions. The Yankees had no chance..."
