1. Wow that is going to be a great movie
That's going to be a great movie. Angela Lansbury was in the first one.

4. The First One Was a GREAT Movie
Why remake? Demme - take a tip from Gus Van Sant: Don't remake the classics.

10. Yeah, why remake a classic?
The only reason is the big corporations that control all of our entertainment lack any creative ability whatsoever.

At least in the old days, the movie moguls actually LIKED movies and wanted to make GOOD movies.

With all due respect to Washington's talent, there are some movies that don't NEED to be remade. Saw A Face In The Crowd recently, and marveled at how it gets more visionary with each passing year. That's because truly great works of art have the ability to make a statement that's so unique or definitive, it's immune to being expanded or improved upon. Remember the remake of Psycho with Anne Heche? I rest my case. And I felt like crying when I heard about the remake of Sabrina.

But if this going to be done, I'm glad that Johnathan Demme realized that he'd need talent of Washington's caliber. Heaven knows the movie would probably make a lot more money if he'd cast someone like Emeniem!

13. Actually, I can't stand denzel, for the reason that he is perfect for
this role. He's just wooden and passionless.

I think the remake of it is fine. I'm pleased to see it being brought into the context of today's issues; I've been referring to the shrub as the manchurian candidate since day one, and for a director like demme to be bringing the entire scenario into THIS context is a rather daring move.

14. My thoughts exactly
that's one of my favorite films.

Why screw with perfection?

6. It's going to suck
Haven't they learned to stop remaking classics?

7. The point is that the shrub in the white house IS the ultimate Manchurian
candidate.... hence the release date, the issue and the fantastic timeliness of it.

Demme is brilliant. His take on it will be frickin fantastic.

Well, if the bush regime doesn't kill him first.

8. I remember when my wife first saw this movie...
being Chinese, she has a different perspective: she said this was a big propaganda film.

OTOH, she did like Reds.

9. It sounds like
a cold-war propaganda film redone for the new hot war...
I hope Demme 'camps' it up.

The original is a little...um..dated...but good yuks

They should remake 7 days in May!!!!
Original tagline
"I'm suggesting Mr President, there's a military plot to take over the Government of these United States, next Sunday..."

12. Far too late to be effective
That's less than a week before the election.

This would need to be a summer flick to have any effect.

15. This really stretches the bounds of plausibility.
An American G.I. brainwashed in Iraq? Comical Ali was the pinnacle of their propaganda effort.

16. Tough to beat the original
Just watched it two weeks ago. No Laurence Harvey fan, but Sinatra and Lansbury were great, just great. The love story can be improved, though. Actually, could be an intriguing remake - if it isn't more GWB worship.

17. Sigh....
Why are they remaking it? The original one was GREAT! It's been a growing trend to remake movies like this, Psycho, Planet of the Apes and it shows how some people aren't creative at all. I hear they are also making a Willy Wonka remake. It makes me puke in my soup.
