Who wants to help plan a DU Gathering in NYC (early) Spring ‘04?
Edited on Thu Oct-09-03 02:35 PM by rbnyc
Hey, do you live around here? Do you want to meet great DUers in person? How'd you like to be my partner in planning a DU gathering in NYC this coming spring?

Please respond in this thread.

Also, if you think you'd be interested in attending a spring gathering, post a reply.

I know GOPisEvil will be there!

:D

EDIT AGAIN: I want this to be far enough away from the rethug convention that people won't feel like they have to pick between them. I don't want to do this at all if it will keep people from coming in the summer to protest the convention.

5. I thought you were coming to Philly!
Of course, I would have had to give you grief about your Nets. :P

7. something always happens to me right before these gatherings
But I really wanted to go to that one. And yes, I'm sure you would have given me grief about the Nets. But not this time. This time we run away with the division and the conference and take the title in six games against the Lakers.

9. I still have mud on my shoes from the last time
I'm actually on a team at work, we're tied for first with the NY Times. So my softball needs are being met, let's do something new.
Someplace we won't get rained on.

10. OMG! That was so funny!
I thought I was the worst at softball, but I think there were at least 2 people on my team who were worse than me. What was the final score again? Like 27 to zero?

8. Woo-Hoo!
I had my bridal shower at a really great bar with a nice party room in the back, but I don't remember what it was called. I'll have to ask Amy.

What other bars have cool party rooms?

14. I'll be back to check my inbox...
...in a little bit. I have to clean the cats' boxes.

Cliff cleaned them by himself for over 4 months. First, I was pregnant and not allowed to clean them, and then after the accident, it was too difficult for me. Well, now that I'm well enough to do the chore, I'm going to take care of it for a few weeks on my own and give him a well deserved break. So the next phase in my recovery is marked by kitty litter. (I can't wait to get pregnant again.)

Once you have been pregnant, you never ever again have to clean a catbox! It's the law.

Count me in, BTW.

18. Believe me, there are hotels
We may not be able to get the Ritz Carlton, but we'll find something in a good neighborhood. NYC has the most hotels out there of any city in the country and I've checked as of today and there is plenty of hotel space available.

Plus some DUers have already expressed they would house a DUer or 2 to help out.

The Republican Convention 2004 will be something they will talk about in History Books for generations. How can we dare NOT be there???

16. Hmmm...
...I was thinking people would come out for the convention anyway, so I was trying to make it far enough before the convention that people wouldn't feel like they're going back and forth too soon.

Maybe I should do a poll.

26. What if we have the gathering in February?
That's far enough away from the summer that people who want to come from out of town won't feel like they have to choose between this and the convention. Plus, if people do feel like they would have to choose, I hope they'd choose the convention.

But if it really will conflict, I'd rather just skip an earlier gathering and just see people at the convention.

20. I'm leaving town when the Pubs come marching in
if there are no Al quada attacks between now and then, that's a 3 year window between attacks. Why? Saving up for the big shabang.

I hope I'm wrong, but I'll be on vacation.

23. PLEASE READ NEW EDIT...
...in original post.

If there were an NYC gathering in march, would that keep you from coming back to protest the republican national convention in the summer?

I posted the idea for a gathering because some folks in the NYC area were sorry they couldn't make it to my birthday party, but I don't want to detract from the protest.

That's the biggest question for me. I would love to something by myself for once. I don't know though. I'd have to work on my jeal....I mean, loving husband for awhile first.
I'm in Connecticut by the way, sort of close, but still about 2 hours to the city.
