Mozilla help, please.
I just started using Mozilla a couple of weeks ago. The one with the integrated mail.

I haven't checked my mail on this machine for a couple of days, but tonite, when I do, the messages seem to be regenerating endlessly. It's showing 5000 messages. I can start deleting them, but they just start regenerating. Even after i press the "stop" button, after a couple of minutes, here they come again.

I've tried to select and delete all the messages, but before the process is finished, it crashes.

I've tried deleting a "page" at a time, but they regenerate faster than I can delete, and it eventually crashes.

I've must have about 50 copies of each message.

I've cleared cookies and cache. No help.

The other computer here at home is not getting all of these duplicates, which seems to me the messages are not actually being re-sent, they are just multiplying on this computer (imac).

Grrrr. Anybody out there have a suggestion?

1. uninstall/reinstall mozilla
this will reset every possible configuration that could be causing it, as well as any bug in the program that could be causing it.

as its a mac its unlikely its a virus.

you'll lose all your mail (unless mozilla stores mail on mozilla servers which i dont believe to be the case, i believe mail is stored locally) but that's the least of your worries. Of course, you may have really important stuff in the mail so this may not be an option.

3. Mozilla screwed up my machine...I had to have a guy from my ISP
come over to take it off and fix the mess. No more Mozilla for me.
I'm running Netscape 7.0 for now for my mail (and IE as an alternate browswer for some sites)

4. Thanks for the help.
I don't mind losing the mail- I can get them from other machines (at work for example) that collect it too.

I was unable to figure out how to get bug help. It looks like listservs (?) which automatically open up the email program which gets the whole process started again. I will uninstall and go back to IE and outlook for the moment. I think Apple has a new update for Safari and macmail, I'll look into that. And maybe I can spend some more time trying to get to Mozilla's bug hunters.

Thanks again.

5. My suggestion...
although probably not terribly appreciated at this point, would be to try Opera for the Mac. Opera 7.2 for the PC is is pretty serious stuff, with a decent email client. Don't know how the v6.03 for the Mac would compare with the latest Safari, but I was happy with 6.03 for the PC.

For email, I don't know how it would compare with Apple's mail client, but Eudora for the PC does fine by me, and it probably works even better on a Mac.

6. Are you sure that you've chosen "delete messages on server"?
Maybe your previous programm was just loading new messages, but still left the old ones on the server. I've never heard of a behaviour like this from Mozilla.

7. I've deleted Mozilla.
But I'm pretty sure I was having messages deleted from the server. Besides, there were many, many multiple copies of each message. And there was no way I received 500 messages just in the past 2 days.

There is an automatic crash log function that apparently gets sent to Mozilla, so they should have the info. I'll try to figure out how to navigate their bug help in the next couple of days.

Thanks again for the help.
