1. I have NO shame about admitting that the Guess Who
are one of my favorite bands from the period. It's a damn shame the lead singer's acting aspirations killed that band, although I think they're back together as a touring band now.

2. My Absolute Favourite Song
...by the Guess Who is LIFE IN THE BLOODSTREAM.

"You don't believe that this whole universe
Could be inside your little sister's purse
You don't believe you're just a living glob
Like Lucy, Freddy, Ricky, Frank and Bob

We're life in the bloodstream, baby
That's the natural progression
We're life in the bloodstream
I hope the little boy don't fall and skin his knee"

It's a positive message and catchy tune for singing along....points for the sax, too.

4. hey, baby ...
I've even got the Guess Who black-light poster from the early 1970s (courtesy of my record club at the time). Woo hoo!

"These eyes ... cry every night ... for my country / These arms ... these arms long to reach out to the voting machine in 2004 / The hurtin's on me ... and we will never be free ... Bush took a vow in front of me ... and he broke it ... he broke it ... HAH! / These eyes have seen a lot of crap / but they're never gonna see as much crap as we've seen with Buuuuush ..."

Sorry.

3. Shakin' all over!
'bout my favorite... especially as covered by the Who.

Ol' Burton succumbed to the Elvis syndrome over time.

He had delusions of superstardom after all of the fans ceased to care.

7. Remember his hawaiian shirt period?

I saw him perform several times in the late 70's, early 80's and he always wore a loud hawaiian shirt....covering a multitude of sins, I suppose.

9. I voted for "Share The Land," but...

...The Guess Who made their best records before Burton Cummings came along and turned the band flaccid.

"Shakin' All Over," now that was great rock 'n' roll!!!

15. She's come undun parody
She's come undone
The doctor sewed her up yesterday
But she split apart anyway
It was too late

She's come undone
She had a gash that was way too wide
And all her stuff oozed out that was inside
It was too late

It's too late
She's come apart
She's more than one
She's come undone
She saw her guts right before her eyes
Came the time to realize
And it was too late

She's come undone
All her stuff ended up on the floor
And then she opened up a little more
Mama, it was too late

It's too late
She's come apart
She's more than one
She's come undone

Too many gashes and not enough twine
Too many ouches and not enough knots
Too many places for all of her stuff to leak
Too many ways to bleed and not enough line

It's too late
She's come apart
She's more than one
She's come undone
(Doe-doe-doe-doe-doe doe un doe-doe-doe un doe-doe-doe)
(Doe doe-doe-doe-doe un doe-doe-doe doe-doe-doe)
(Doe doe-doe-doe doe doe-doe-doe doe doe)

It's too late
She's come apart
She's more than one
She's come undone
All her stuff ended up on the floor
And then she opened up a little more
It was too late

She's come undone
She had a gash that was way too wide
And all her stuff oozed out that was inside
It was too late

It's too late
She's come apart
She's more than one
She's come undone
(No no-no-no-no-no no)
(Doe doe doe-doe)

And does anyone remember their excellent "Guns, Guns, Guns?" That one was a good bit ahead of its time!

25. These Eyes......
I had the pleasure of meeting Burton when I was sixteen. I went backstage at a concert in Nfld., Canada. I drove him around doing some sightseeing the next day and expressed disappointment that he did not sing "These Eyes" the night before. He sang it to me right there in my car! Ever since, that has been my favorite Guess Who song. I accidentally ran into Burton about 8 years later in Time Square. He was in town to announce his tour with Ringo Starr. He still remembered me all those years later! He is a really nice guy.

28. "Star Baby"
The Guess Who played my junior high school in suburban Minneapolis in the winter of 1971. I snuck back stage and Burton Cummings said, "Hey, man," to me. I was thrilled for months.

30. Actually, the only one I AM embarrassed
to admit I used to love is Talisman. It sounds pseudo-profound and silly now, but boy, I used to adore that song. It's hasn't aged well. Maybe it was the drugs.
