So...I called my vet from Tahiti & got to listen to K-FROG
For the uninitiated, K-FROG is a country radio station (ugh) that is often played when someone is on hold..

Here's the story..

We leave for Tahiti on 10-2...have to head for the airport at 8 am..

On 10-1, I came home from last minute errands to find Sammy (my 6 mo old kitten) sprawled on the couch, right where I want to sit.. I moved him and he stayed right where I put him.. (odd, but not too troubling).. We had plans for that last evening, and when we returned at 9 PM, he's still in the exact same position.. Now I am worried, so I picked him up and put him on the floor, where he promptly collapsed..

It's long past vet hours, so off we went to the emergency pet hospital 20 miles away.. 4 hours , 2 x-rays,a pain shot and $133.00 later, they decided that he somehow wrenched his little back..

I watched him all the rest of the night, and at 8 am (when we should have been heading to the airport, I took him to MY vet.. My vet looked at the x-rays and said "look at this".. a fracture right at the base of his tail.. I was panicking, since my husband is in the car, with our luggage loaded.. Dr. Smith assured me that since he had mobility, and when medicated, could stand and move his tail, that he would probably heal with time.. They did decide to keep him for a few days, and said that our son could pick him up on Saturday, if he was well enough to go..

We raced back home and called my son's work to leave a message for him to that effect and off we went to the airport..

Fast forward to Saturday 10/4...

Just as we are ready to leave the bungalow, our phone rings.. The tahitian girl at the frnt desk tells us it's our son calling.. The call is never connected, and now I am worried sick, imagining that Sammy has died or needs to be put down and our son is calling to ask our permission..

We sat there for a half hour hoping that he will call back, and he does not.. NOW I am reaLLY CONVINCED something horrible has happened, so I bit the bullet and called my vet..

Me:..This is Mrs.... , I am calling you long distance from TAHITI to find out about my cat Sammy..

them:. Have you ever been here before???

me:.. About a thousand times..

them.. How do you spell your name?

me.._ _ _ _ _ .. I am calling from TAHITI LONG DISTANCE..

them.. hold on..K-FROG..K-FROG and more K-FROG

them..We can't find your cat..it's real busy here.. what does he look like?? Has he been here before??

me.. He's a black tuxedo kitten ..he was supposed to be picked up by my son (name)....

them:..hold on...K-FROG..K-FROG and more K-FROG

them # 2... Are you being helped??

me..I am calling from TAHITI LONG DISTANCE..the other girl put me on hold. I am trying to find out if my son picked up my kitten Sammy...

them:.. Oh.. yes he picked him up a little while ago, and we sent you a bill for $140.00..

This took over 12 minutes and ended up costing us $43.00, but it was worth it to know that he was ok..

When we got home I asked my son why he did not call us back.. He DID.. they did not put the second call through either. Then he got scared to keep calling, since he did not want to run our phone bill up higher..

Sammy is better now, and hopefully he will be fine.. We think he was pushed off or fell off the cat tower.. There is tile floor below on one side and they love to scrap over who gets the top perch..

1. I thought maybe you had a pet frog named "K"
and you missed his little voice so much on your trip that you had to call the vet/frog resort just to hear that familiar "ribbet, ribbet".
I hope Sammy heals well and will soon be zipping and scampering.

2. He's getting better every day.. This morning he was playing with his mouse
so he seems to be mending.. I just hope he stays off the cat-tower for a while..
