I'm reading Al Franken's new book
And I just love it. I especially like the interchange between Wolfowitz and Franken.

Description of scene:

"Speaking of pissing of a neo-con: Later, at the after-party given by Bloomberg News, I went up to Paul Wolfowitz, the deputy secretary of Defense and the architect of the Bush pre-emption doctrine. "Hi, Dr. Wolfotitz. Hey, the Clinton military did a great job in Iraq, didn't it?"

He looked at me for a couple of seconds , then said, "Fuck you".

Just shows how much of an asshole Wolfowitz is. Franken describes him as a pretty haughty and condescending guy. It also seemed like Wolfowitz must've been drunk when Franken was talking to him. That what is seems to me.

Franken also stated that Clinton was the best President of the 21st century. Technically, he is right because we are in the 21st century now and Clinton left office in January. However, I have reservations about Clinton myself.

Also, Franken reserves an entire chapter for all the right-wing cabals out there. He makes up a ficitional story of what would happen if they were in the Vietnam war. He describes them as being paranoid and racist pretty much.

1. That whole chapter lost me.
I thought the rest of the book was bril. But I skipped that chapter. He sort of ran out of steam at the end of the book.

3. The Chickenhawk chapter was the weakest IMO...
...it didn't work in RLIABFIAOO* and it didn't work in "Lies" either. The rest of the book was very strong.

Next step: read "Big Lies" by Joe Conason and/or "What Liberal Media?" by Eric Alterman to get a "serious" reinforcement to Franken's theme. That way the wingnuts can't accuse you of getting your political ammo from a mere satirist. (I know it's still true, but...)

4. the chickenhawk chapter in Rush is a big fat idiot was goofy too
I think he wrote it to be a potential skit on SNL... perhaps it would be better if it was ..?

Otherwise I love Franken!

5. I agree completely. I just skipped it. It did not add anything to the
book. But I loved the one on Supply Side Jesus.

2. you would think they would learn
But they don't. Bill O'Lielley was featured on Terri Gross's show, Fresh Air, the other day. He became extremely belligerant and then started telling (more) lies.

Now, after someone has written a book about the lies you've told, don't you think it might be time to try the truth? But oh no....

Instead, O'Lielley accused NPR of being a left wing organization and said that the taxpayers supported it to the tune of $1 billion. Well, not even close. The entire taxpayer amount that goes to public radio AND TV is something like $200 odd million.

And this fool is out there saying a billion. What an a$$.

You can listen to the show here:
