Run Steve Bartman....RUN!
3-0 Marlins, first inning.

Seneca, you might want to think about running too.

4. Leave him the hell alone.
Bartman is a lifelong, die-hard Cubs fan. Bitch at the Cubs for choking, not their fans for being fans. Gosh, a fan tried to grab a fly ball...that's never happened before! Stop looking for excuses for the Cubs sucking wind last night, and start cheering for them to win tonight.

18. Actually I agree
I was appalled when the mans place of business and even his
e-mail address and alma mater were all over the 'net today.
At worst he made a very understandable mistake that the Cubs
haven't seemed able to recover from.

Here in Philly thugs trashed the home of pitcher Mitch Williams
who served up Joe Carters famous series-winning homer in 1993.
He got death threats and had to leave the area. I was as distressed
as anyone at the loss of the Series and was not a Williams fan
but it was an embarrassment to the city that some people acted that
way.

When they closed Veterans Stadium for good at the end of this season
Williams finally came back and was actually cheered on the Vets final day.

2. AWD, you better not be dissing my Cubs!
We Chicagoans are really good about putting curses on people you know. And as the Cub have shown, they're really hard to get rid of, so you'd best think twice before upsetting a Chicago Cubs fan.

7. No way...not at all
I love a good underdog.....and as a Cleveland Indians fan, I hate the Marlins for buying their 1997 championship away from my team.

14. My thought......
....if the Cubs and Red Sox both make it, I'll begin taking bids on which city I should visit to bring them a championship.

I do have that strange ability, as mentioned on these pages before.

3. I'm assuming Steve Bartman is the guy who didn't interfere with
the foul ball last night?

I feel bad for that guy if the Cubs lose. It wasn't his fault, but I'm sure he thinks it is, and I'm sure most in the city think so, too.

I am just one in a million buddy. I am no more responsible for the Cubs' plight than the man in the moon.

I do NOT regret my enthusiasm and support of the Cubs on this board. :P

.....you are certainly not responsible (unless you believe in karmic theories). But damn, that took guts to post the victory celebration thread before Game 6 even started.

This is why I never predict my team's games ahead of time. Defend them to the end, but never lay down actual predictions.

on edit - actually, the man in the moon lost 50 bucks betting on the Braves.

12. it's only sports
If the Cubs win, I will look like a ballsy genius for guessing 48 hours early, if not, I will take my lumps, and by Christmas, no one will care.

I know you don't blame me, but I had to address my critics who think I am somehow to blame just because I was eager, lol. :-)

Always hopeful and optimistic. :toast:

If you're ever in Chicago you should come to one of our DU gatherings. We drink a lot of beer (and sometimes sangria) and hang out for hours.

If this had happened in Comiskey/U.S. Cellular/whateverthehell Field with the White Sox, he'd have an obit in the Trib & Sun-Times today.

23. You misunderstood me....
....the majority of Sox fans I know HATE the Cubs. So this guy, based on what he did at the Cubs game, would have the protection of the Sox fans who liked what they saw.

And yes, I've been to Chicago.

19. Rooting for the Cubs is like voting for a Republican
They are the epitome of corporate culture. Their fans are usually upper-middle class and snooty. The Cubs, furthermore are owned by the Tribune Company, as far right as can be. The White Sox, on the other hand, are blue collar underdogs. GO Marlins.

21. Uhhh...No!
All baseball teams are corporate. The White Sox now play in Cellular Field. They make waaayyyy more money than the Cubs organization.

And no, not all Cubs fans are white and upper middle class. Come to Chicago sometime and see how many Cubs fans there are of all races and ethnicities. Sammy Sosa is an inspiration to all of the kids in my neighborhood (Humboldt Park), which is predominantly Puerto Rican.

26. I rarely put people on ignore and never for more than 48 hours
but after this series, there are certain DUers who will remain on my ignore list forever.

Some people have no idea what it is to root for the Cubs nor the emotions tied up with something like this series.

27. The irony for me, Walt,
is that had the situations been reversed, I would have been rooting for the White Sox. Isn't it sad that all people cannot be that magnanimous about what...after all...is a game?

They just bought a pitch from Kevin James to make a film based on a fan doing what Bartman did.
