So how do the Marlins stack up against the Yankees or Sox?

Urbina's the only relief pitcher I have full confidence in. I worry about Penny and Willis. And don't get me started about Chad Fox.

and the Cubs had no patience. I couldn't believe Simon was flailing away.

Ugueth likes put the tying run at the plate, just to challenge himself. But the Cubs were really feeling the pressure.

Personally, I think it will be RedSox versus Florida. The Marlins have struggled a bit offensively, but got hot these last two games. The starting pitching has been decent, but I'm getting a little concerned. Beckett is probably the ace. Pavano and Redman are decent, while Willis has stuggled as of late.

After beating two excellent teams in San Francisco and Chicago, I don't see them going away easily.

Pudge Rodriguez. Arm like a freakin' cannon. And he's been swinging the bat like a madman during the playoffs - has a hit in every game and a shitload of RBI.

And I'm thinking he would really like a piece of the Yankees after all the years on the losing side over in the AL with the Rangers.

I'm sad for the Cubs fans and I was really hoping for a Cubs/Sox World Series...but I'm thrilled to death for Pudge and I'm laughing my ass off that the Rangers were stupid enough to let him get away and now he's going to the World Series and they aren't. :evilgrin:

to Carlton with that nickname. When Rodroguez first came into the Rangers organization he was a little roly-poly and got saddled with Pudge as a nickname and it stuck (despite the fact that he's in tremendous shape now).

Heck, there are worse people that could bear the same nickname as Carlton Fisk. :-)

A matchup with the Red Sox would be good, but I think it would be irresponsible for anyone to call the Red Sox the favorite in a World Series.

That may seem like a long time ago to a fan of an expansion team.

The Sox and Cubs both have a nationwide fan base. FL hasn't been around long enough to have any real support outside their own backyard and there are more people that HATE the Yankees than who like them.

Sox/Cubs would have been a series for the ages...

But if Boston wins tomorrow, I'll at least peek in to the games occasionally, otherwise I'll ignore it.

My bet is it's the Sox they beat, because it would be unfair for Chicago fans to have the Lion's share of frustration.

This may be the best team in baseball right now. As has been stated repeatedly, they have the best record in baseball since early May. They've got fair pitching, with a couple of guys that can be overwhelming. They're incredible in the field, and it's incredibly difficult to steal a base against Ivan. Their bats are quite good in general and incredible in the clutch. Finally, their speed is sensational. Neither AL catcher will be able to stop these guys from swiping a few.

There will be no favorite in the World Series in my mind.

Pierre was only 1/4 in stolen bases. Castillo got 2 in one game, but none in the rest. But your point is well taken. Florida has speed that impacts the game in a lot of ways. They can make infielders make poor throws by rushing them.

Watching the first game, I thought the Marlins speed was going to make it a very quick series. Somehow, the Cubs did all right, and without very much behind the plate.

Shortly after McKeon took over they went on a slight slump. Then they went the rest of the season 30 games over .500. They were and still are the hottest team in baseball. They will win no matter who they face. The top of the order is hell on any pitcher, and that's pretty much all they need. Their pitching is adequate enough to win.

If I were a Red Sox fan, I'd be dreading this potential matchup.

The Marlins win and know how to devastate the opposing team's fans in the process.

Just as Giants fans and Cubs fans. (And Indians and Braves fans in 1997, for that matter.)

If it's Red Sox/Marlins, I sense another 1986 coming on.

Illogical perhaps, but it does make sense in a strange way.

(Red Sox would have had some chance of winning against the Cubs (or Braves or Giants). But against the Marlins, I don't see it happening.)

That would be a first. I think it's uncharted waters here. The Marlins are in a dream world right now, and if the Sox win they'll have already won the REAL World Series. It kind of reminds me of the the NCAA Final Four: the best games are the semi-finals, not the championship game.
Anyway, I rate that series (Sox-Fish) as a tossup. As the Fish just experienced, ANYTHING can happen.

That's when they GET you!!

I hope the Sox make it, but even more do I hope that whoever comes out of the ACLS CRUSHES the Marlins!
