Poll question: Who is glad the heroes of "Blair Witch" are 'dead'?
Edited on Wed Oct-15-03 11:17 PM by CanuckAmok
I know this isn't bery current, but "The Blair Witch Project" was on cable the other day, so I watched it while I did some paperwork.

I still say the whole concept rocks, including the clever ad campaign with the photocopied 'missing' handbills promoting the movie, and gthe clever website support.

And, despite the film being, overall, not very scary, the last three minutes are truly terrifying, IMO.

BUT...I am so glad that Josh, Amanda, and Mark are DEAD. Bitch, bitch bitch. What a bunch of whiney little punks. I hope it hurt like hell, whatever the witch did to them.

"WAAAAAAA! I'm out of cigarettes"

"WAAAAAAA! Josh's teeth are wrapped in burlap!"

"WAAAAAAA! I haven't eaten in three days!"

"WAAAAAAA! That's the same log we crossed yesterday!"

"WAAAAAAA! WAAAAAAAA! WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!"

So... who are you MOST grateful is dead, of the blair Witch trio?

edit=I was going to edit all my typos, but fuck it--it's just "The Blair Witch Project"

2. Amanda
The snot bubbles push her right into the winner's circle.

I actually had to convince a friend's wife the whole thing was fake. This was AFTER they appeared on some awards show and EVERYONE knew it was "just a movie." She still insisted the story was real. WTF???

8. Those commercials are from 1996
She did them before Blair Witch.

Heather's done a few films since then, though.

6. I'm so glad I didn't pay to see that piece of crap
I caught it when my cable system offered a free one-week preview of Showtime.

After fifteen minutes I was hoping that the witch would sic flying monkeys on them. All they did was wander around in the woods and say "fuck you" a lot.

Yawn. I watched the whole wretched thing in the hope that it would get scary or even atmospheric, but no....

27. I paid to see it and had to leave, but didn't care!
All these people recommended it, so I went with my husband and we got popcorn and coke. After we ate the popcorn, the camera movements made us both feel like throwing up, so we left the theater. But neither of us cared because we hated it. I was mad about spending the money on it.

7. Friends of mine made that film...
Edited on Wed Oct-15-03 11:44 PM by AWD
....but getting 2 of the 3 names wrong doesn't really lend credence to your review of the film.

Thanks for your compliments to BWP, though. Most people who complain about some of the tings you did NEVER want to admit how cool of an idea it was.

13. I liked it--I just hated the characters. Film was good, though,
although not really scary.

But very original, and a good saturday night feature.

Slap your friends for making "Book of Shadows", though, okay?

14. I can't do that...
....because they didn't make that film.

Book Of Shadows was done by Artisan Films, who bought the rights. Dan and Ed (directors/writers) were brought on as exec producers, but were ignored completely by the director of BWP2.

Dan and Ed have the rights back again and were going to do a prequel for Part 3, the story of Elly Kedward...but since Artisan f-ed up Part 2 (and revealed within the film that it was just a movie, against the highest wishes), they scrapped it.

But thank you. I agree.

I enjoyed the "newsreel" footage in the documentary...

20. That was brought up too
....but they had spent a lot of effort on Rustin Parr's story in a book, and the whole plot line had been pretty much revealed...nothing new to twist in the film.

Elly Kedward, however, was an enigma. They had plenty of room to work with. Including the fact that she never was a witch, but supposedly embraced her accusations as she lay dying in the woods, in order to have her vengeance.

But that Parr footage WAS cool...the guy looked like Randy Johnson, I thought.

19. BWP
It's a concept that only works once. I liked it the first time I saw it, but I thought the characters were stupid to go camping without a single gun. "Book of Shadows" was such a piece of crap and seems to have ruined the potential for any follow up on the original story.

To me, the original would have worked better edited with the Sci-Fi special as an introduction, because otherwise, it may as well have been "The Rustin Parr Project" because the witch really was not set up with the pre-woods interviews.

Edited on Thu Oct-16-03 06:56 AM by Throckmorton
Decent Silva Compass $25.99,
Cheesy, yet functional GPS,$109.00

But, no, we have to blow the whole wad on Junk food and
Professional Camera and Sound Gear, $50,000

Getting lost in the woods, priceless.

BTW, did you notice that the abandonded house was wired for electricity. Boy, I bet the were just yards from a public road. But, as the immortal theme song to MST3K says, 'Just repeat to yourself it's just a show, I really should relax".

24. I thought two or three scenes were really scary
The last scene, of course.
The part where they come out of their tents and find all the stones piled up in patterns, and when they find the tree branches all tied together is pretty scary, too.

I had fun when I went to see this movie at the theatre. I took my cousins, who were 9 and 12 at the time. Afterwards, I took them to this graveyard in Inkster that is allegedly haunted. It is virtually abaondoned, and most of the gravestones for the men had masonic symbols on them, for what it's worth, but there have been ghost sightings reported for years. They were kind of scared, even though it was daytime, and were mad at me for walking around and talking to the graves, saying things like "Sorry no one comes to visit you anymore, but we're here to say hi".

I recommend a visit to the Butler cemetary for all Detroit area posters. It's on the west side of Henry Ruff Road, just south of Michigan AVE. Henry Ruff is between Middlebelt and Merriman. It's totally deserted most of the time and maybe you'll see a ghost?

29. All of them...
I rented this movie, and after about a half hour, I was rooting for the witch.

After forty-five minutes, I turned the damn thing off and pondered my wasted $3.95 at the video store (momentarily cheered by the thought that I hadn't actually purchased it).
