The third call rule.

(inspired by WhoCountsTheVotes' third date thread-thank you)

A long, long time ago, in a universe far away, back when I was dating, we had the "3 call rule".

If you called a girl for a first date and she was busy you could call her two more times. If she was "busy" 3 times in a row that meant that she wasn't going out with you under any circumstances. She didn't have to be rude and say it, it was just understood.

Is that still the rule?
What are some other rules now?

1. Well, my least favorite rule seems to be...

"If you're you, she's not interested." I thought for a while that this couldn't possibly be right, but it demonstrates it's power time and time again. :shrug:

3. It worked

with a minimum of pain and embarassment.
Happened to me a couple of times and it was a bit of a downer ("Wonder why she doesn't like me?").
But at least I didn't get "You miserable dweeb will you PLEASE quit calling me".

Then there was one girl I'd called 3 times and got turned down each time, "Going to my gradnmother's...going to my aunt's and uncle's, going camping, etc." but...
The third time I called she said "This is NOT the 3 call rule, but my family plans some family thing almost every week end and they make me go." Eventually we got together.
