Time for another WELCOME DU NEWBIES thread!
Edited on Sat Oct-18-03 03:07 PM by Seneca
Newbies, I'd like to welcome you all to the Democratic Underground!

If you are a newbie, I urge you to cast off your shyness and POST. We're a generally good bunch here, if a bit raw and passionate at times. :-) Once you start posting though, it won't be easy to quit.

So, welcome to ALL of the DU newbies! :hi: :toast:

Hey,
Thanks for the post! Longtime visitor to DU, really since the Selection in 2000. I remember how comforting it was back then to know I wasn't the only one outraged by what I took to be the hijacking of the Democratic process.
Since then I've pretty much been in stealth mode monitoring DU, always informative and interesting...

Peace,

Esco01:smoke:

6. Newbie #2 questions
I've been posting for about a week. I have a few questions:

What does "n/y" mean?

What is a "Lurker"

If a "Freeper" is someone who enjoys Free Republic and drinks baby blood...what is a Democratic Underground aficionado? A DUper or something?

How do you get to be an administrator? How many are there?

I'm sure I'll think of more questions later.

12. Answers.....
I think you mean n/t. N/T means no text. A person types this when all they type is the subject line.

2. A lurker is someone who reads more than he/she posts.

3. A freeper is a memeber of the Free Republic website.
A member of DU can be referred to as a DUer.

4. There are 3 administrators. A member cannot become an administrator but a member can become a moderator. At present there are 20 moderators and they serve a 2 month term.

If you have any other questions, please feel free to ask them!

:-)

23. I was wodering that myself...what n/t means.
The only thing I could think of was "next topic." "No text" seems like stating the obvious, but whatever.

Here's another question: What was the origin/meaning of the * symbol for Bush?

7. I'm new & addicted
I'm also a gay man trapped in a woman’s body! I'm also addicted to DU! I'm so happy I found you guys!

I have lots of gay friends. I want to make it known that we are depending on the gay/lesbian vote for a win in 2004. In addition, yes, my "Bruthas & Sistahs" we are depending on your votes as well.

I am a Clark supporter. For some reason it was his candidacy that made me feel like we had hope for winning 2004. Before Clark announced I was seriously considering moving to France. I'm embarrassed to be American now because of the shrub.

When push comes to shrub I'll support any Democratic candidate in 2004.

8. Welcome to newcomers and delurkers
I was also happy to find a place to come after I was so outraged by the 2000 selection.

What's been interesting to me during my time here, is that I often find out about news days before it appears in any mainstream news outlet...and sometimes months.

of course, we also have our moments of savenger hunt posts, too.

Shrub poster, lurker is someone who reads and never posts.

I don't think Freepers drink baby blood, but I do think they have some serious differences with me and with the majority of the American population about many issues.

I've only read a couple of things you've posted, but they were both somewhat insulting to people on DU.

I don't assume you're a troll, but I would like to suggest that you might find more friends here if you wouldn't try to insult everyone in your first few points.

Your mileage may vary.

I don't know that n/y means, but n/'t means that there is no text, just a subject header answer in a post. That's meant to let people know they don't have to open that post. A kindness when you're just scanning a thread.

I suppose you could call people on DU "dupers," but considering the amount of baldface lying coming from the Bush administration on every single issue facing this country, I think maybe you could better serve your country to try to ask why Bush has such a vague relationship with truth.

10. Newbie here who joined DU yesterday.
I'm terrya. I joined yesterday. I found DU and am completely addicted. I feel very much at home here. :-)

I'm a 47 year old gay man, I live in Chicago, home of the hoped to be World Series bound Cubs. Ah, well, wait til next year!

I'm a very enthusiastic Howard Dean supporter. I've been to several of the Dean meetups here already, and can see the momentum for Dean building. If Governor Dean doesn't win the Democratic nomination, I will support any of the other candidates. It's a moral, ethical, and essential imperative to remove George W. Bush in 2004. Bush loves to spend time at his ranch in Crawford. Let's send him back there permanently.

It's nice to be a part of the DU family. Like I said before...I feel very much at home here.

25. Hi, rhiannon!
Thanks for indulging me in my opening post. I'm sort of shy, actually. But after feeling so at home, and discovering how cool DU is, I sort of rambled. But the election is very important to me. Governor Dean has said it before...it's time we took our country back.

Anyway...thank you for making me feel so at home.

28. I'm not indulging you, terrya! I happen to really agree with you
And I'm sure that you'll find you're hardly alone in feeling that this is probably the most important election in history! We have to take our country back! I'm assuming you haven't met WillPitt yet, but he said in his recent book, it's almost too late! There's no need to feel shy on DU. Indulge in a rant when you have a mind to. I even do it, occasionally, myself! Again, welcome!:hi:
