DU axe-men/women: I need to find some good guitar lesson web sites
Not the ones that sell their disc or book or tape but have no actual content published on the web page....but rather, sites that have some good shit on it that actually publish the so called systems you have to pay $20 to get in a book...there has to be guitarists out there that just want to share stuff on the web, free to copy and paste, without trying to sell something??? Isn't there???. ...Any axe-men/women on DU know any such sites?
I'm stuck in a rut and need a kick. I thought I would ask before dishing $20 or more on some book that may or may not help me.
It can be any style...not limited to blues/rock genre...but I am not a music reader, I just try and let the frets give up their secrets.
I know I'll be lectured to learn to read music, but that is not really where I am gonna go. But any help or suggestions is appreciated.

Thanks!!

3. tabs are great if you have at least a grasp of the basics

pick some songs you're familiar with, whose guitar parts will offer you a challenge. Some people have a heavy anti-tab snobbish bias, but I think they're great.

on edit: forgot to mention, and you might/probably already know this, but type "(band name)" and "tabs" or "tablature" in Google and you should come up with plenty of fan sites that offer the tabs for free.

4. Richard Lloyd!
http://www.richardlloyd.com/

If you aren't familiar with him, he is part of Television (bonafide guitar god status) and also plays on a lot of Matthew Sweet's albums.

What's cool about his lessons is that he goes into Pythagorean theory and how it relates to the instument.

10. Definitely Richard Lloyd!
I have to declare an interest and admit that I produce Richard Lloyd's site and even though I put this stuff up and do the illustrations _and_ play the guitar I still can't follow it all! Possibly this is because it's such a refreshingly different approach to teaching music/the guitar and it forces you to rethink much of what you thought you knew - or could do/have been doing.
And if you have the opportunity to see Richard live with Television or solo you will be knocked out by the quality of his playing (and I'm only saying that because it's true!)

11. Hee Hee
I guess I made your day, huh?

I've never seen Television, but I did get to see him play live with Health & Happiness Show several years ago. I and a friend sat there growing totally blissed-out faces everytime he went into a solo.

Can you use your pull to get Television to play in Nashville, preferably on a Friday or Saturday night and not too late? (I get up at 4 am for work =)

5. Here are a few links that should help you
I play keyboards, but I pick up a guitar from time to time - so I have lots of links in my bookmark file. :)

These sites were all free when I bookmarked them. Some sites have only tabs. Others have tabs, chords and lessons - have fun exploring!

About.com has links to lots of guitar tab sites, sorted by band names.
http://guitar.about.com/cs/guitartab/

About.com also has links to "easy" song tabs to get you started.

9. spend the money for a qualified teacher
you'll make quicker progress and learn much more in the long run.

tab is all well and good, but there are tons of things that can't be taught without one on one instruction..
