Kerry Collins and the F*cking Giants are the bane of my existence
Edited on Sun Oct-19-03 03:00 PM by soleft
maybe if the Giants continue on this trend and don't win another game, we can draft somebody good.

Bill Parcell's always said of Quarterbacks in the future, we'd find ourselves saying, "He's no Phil Simms"

HOW INCREDIBLY BAD DO THEY SUCK!!!!!!!!!

1. I still believe Collins has it
He needs the surrounding cast to help give him confidence. I don't think he has the personality like a Favre to take over and run the show, but he is more than capable.

Don't give up, though I am pleased to see it, as I have been a Cowboys fan since I was born. My first words were "Roger the dodger"

2. The Giants Need a D Again
They waited too long in the draft to pick top defensive players to restock the team, and it's caught up with them. I thought the pass defense would be better this year, instead, it's been near the bottom of the league.

I think Kerry Collins is a good and Jim Fassel is a good coach. They need some strength at linebacker, offensive line, and the secondary.

6. Their Defense is the only thing keeping them in the game
Time after time the D, Michael Strahan in particular, stops the other team and the offense gives up a turnover inside the red zone.

And special teams - that's the coaches problem if the special teams screw up, and the Giants of lost two games now because of idiot kicking plays in the last minute.

3. I would trade Jim Fassell for Grady Little, straight up
Edited on Sun Oct-19-03 03:29 PM by soupkitchen
It would have to help both teams.

4. They suck because they lost to a team
that went to the NFC Championship game 10-14? Eagles are a good team who got off to a slow start.

17. they suck because they're 2-4 also
they lost to a team that was 5-11 (but is 5-1 right now), lost to the patriots in spectacular fashion (seven turnovers is impressive), and seemed to give up against miami from the parts of the game i watched.

7. Sorry soleft, it ain't Collins, it's Fassel!
I've bitched about him for a long tiume now. Kerry Collins is a good quarterback--one of the best--surrounded by a team that is drifting aimlessly because of a lousy coach!

9. I agree completely
watch the rest of the team. They don't have the fire.

Fassel is a touchy/feely type of coach that never really gets close to his players - doesn't understand them.

Time to move on. Collins is better than the statistics say.

10. Collins statistics over his career
are actually good. But are you a player on his team? How do you know for sure how the relationship between him and his players are? Besides he went to the playoffs last year, took the Giants to the Super Bowl and has done so much for this team in recent history.

11. But even good coaches run out of steam....
...Fassel has had some high moments, but those are in the past and I doubt they'll be repeated. For whatever reason, he is not a good match right now, and I don't think he ever will be. Time to move on.

12. Perhaps you misunderstood me
no - I don't play on the team.

I didn't make any assumptions about his relationship with his teammates. My point was that they are, many of them, not playing up to their potential for whatever reason.

The playoffs and Super Bowl were impressive, of course, but it doesn't take away from what I'm saying TODAY. The players have no fire.

I think Collins is a great quarterback with a second rate group that don't seem to give a shit around him.

13. Yes, and when a team is not playing up to potential, the first place...
...to look, is at the coach. That's his job--it's an overall job that he doesn't seem to be able to handle anymore.

In his defense, the Giants have always been fairly arrogant and wild, and they need a strong coach to keep them in line. Perhaps Fassel could do better with another organization.

14. Pre season they were saying this was the best Giants offense in years
Collins, Toomer, Hilliard, Shockey, Barber. It's the turnovers and the special teams - killing them. That and injuries to the offensive lines.

15. Here's my take on Fassel
Against Dallas, the Giants took a lead on a returned interception by Ralph Brown early in the game. What received no attention was that Brown tip toed into the end zone holding the ball aloft, just waitng for somebody to sneak up behind him and knock it out of his hands.
I turned to a friend of mine and said, "You know the Giants always do stupid things. If there's a stupid way to lose a game they'll find it."
Now on one level Brown showboating meant nothing in the Dallas game, nobody blindsided him and caused a fumble. But someone could have. I mean, the more times you put yourself into needlessy vulnerable positions the more times they'll catch up to you.
Now I don't know if Fassel said anything to Brown after the play. That ABC didn't have a shot of Fassel chewing Brown out doesn't meant that Fassel didn't say anything, but I really doubt he did. Because, as a coach he just doesn't seem to understand that execution is in the details.
His teams never seem to understand the finer points of the game. And that's because I don't think he understands the finer points of the game. You can't take away the success he's had, but maybe his talent won despite his influence rather than because of it.
And certainly, the Giants seem to be unravelling faster than Paul Krugman's America. This is going to be a very tough loss to get over.

16. I think you've nailed it.
They need to be disciplined--you're dealing with huge guys with huge egos--they need to be kept in check in order to win games. All the talent in the world won't help if they don't execute well.

18. and that's where Parcells excels
I heard someone say it comes from coaching at West Point, he's learned how to motivate men. I won't argue against that.
