Any DUers going to this Saturday's March in Washington, D.C.?

My 12-year-old son and I will be going. We'll be leaving from Cleveland Friday night (11 p.m.) on a bus trip organized by the local chapter of A.N.S.W.E.R., the major organizer of the march. We'll get back around 2 a.m. Sunday. From past experience, I know it will be a long, tiring day with a lot of logistics to deal with; however, it's also a lot of fun and worth it.

I'm psyched because I haven't gone to D.C. for a march in about fifteen years, since I was a student at Kent State. And I'm especially excited to have my son with me and to be able to share that experience with him. We'll both be totally zonked on Sunday, I know that for sure, lol! It was tiring enough for me fifteen years ago, when I was a lot younger, thinner, and in much better shape.

But I firmly believe that this is the most critical march and demonstration I will ever attend in D.C., due to the very dangerous, urgent situation we currently find ourselves in and our current "leaders." Never in a million years, not even at the height of the Raygun years, did I think we'd be dealing with this and that the stakes would be this high. I remember one D.C. march I attended while in college, thousands of people marching past the White House chanting, "Hey Reagan, you liar, we'll set your pants on fire!" (this was during the Iran-Contra scandal). I don't think we could do that nowadays and not end up a guest in the city's esteemed corrections hotel!

Is anyone else going, especially other Northeast Ohioans? It'd be interesting and fun to find a way to meet up somehow!

that's great that there'll be a DU gathering! I'm going to be with a bus group, but hopefully I'll be able to figure out all of the logistics so that I can join in the DU fun! Now I'm REALLY psyched!!!

DC has excellent rail trails, bike trails, and a towpath. We are leaving Wednesday after work. Those NOAC people organizing the bus trip are pretty cool, I think you will like the crowd. I will look for you at Constitution and 17th Street!

Any ideas? Go to the copy shop and have them print the DU banner from the home page, perhaps. How about red, white and black balloons?

We need something big enough that those monsters in the White House can read from their windows.

is getting signs made up for us that say Democratic Underground. I'm not sure how big they will be. She's bringing them when we meet for dinner Friday.

I wonder if Skinner still has that DU banner that they used to launch the site? Balloons would be cool. I'm going to be in town early Friday, so I'll see if there's anywhere in our neighborhood where I can pick up some balloons on Saturday.

Aren't they based in D.C.? That would be so awesome to finally meet them!

on top (one on each)...white boards about 18 inches by 22 inches with BIG BLACK LETTERS...I'm trying to find some short wooden sticks to hold them, so they can rise up occasionally above the crowd....

if everyone brings their "whistles" for the shrub "whistle-ass" theme, then we could make noise too....
