Shall we try the DU's Favorite Song nominations again?
When the nominations thread put up the three fingers and sank into the bottomless Archives Ocean, there were 80 replies, of which a grand total of 6 were dittoes of other nominees, not counting Surrender by Cheap Trick, the nomination of which I have to regard as an act of satire. Just kidding, I like it too, but the person who dittoed it had already nominated another song.

So here are the nominees so far:
Imagine
Little Wing
The Way You Look Tonight
White Rabbit
Paranoid Android by Radiohead
This Land Is Your Land, Woody Guthrie

Two versions of Little Wing were nominated. I suspect that if "The Way You Look Tonight" makes the cut it will be followed by the caveat "except for the Rod Stewart version."

Blue Rondo A La Turk joins Surrender in receiving dittoage from somebody who'd already posted. I'm fine with that, but will see if this thread produces any greater support for other tunes.

None of the above had more than two votes, so none are exactly set in stone. C'mon! Let's have some fun and come up with a really astounding DU top ten list.

Guidelines: Obviously, there are no limitations on style or type of music. Kindly read the entire thread (assuming anybody replies) and just make like a dittohead if somebody has already posted your favorite song. Based on past performance by us rugged individualists, this is fairly unlikely, but what the heck. I promise I won't creep anybody else by PMing them if they venture outside the posted rules. Apologies to you-know-who-you-are.

4. In that case...
Edited on Tue Oct-21-03 03:47 PM by KDLarsen
.. I propose Kraftwerk's Autobahn, though it only runs for around 22 minutes.

On a more serious note, I propose Computerworld by same the group.

.. or if I have to go by the list, I think it would be Imagine, though I like the version Neil Young did.

3. Can we offer new nominations?
Or do we have to stick to the list you gave. If so, I would have to go with Imagine. If not... I'm ready to drop a mother lode of nominees.

6. "Mr. Blue" by The Fleetwoods
Our guardian star lost all his glow
The day that I lost you
He lost all his glitter the day you said "No"
And his silver turned to blue
Like him, I am doubtful that your love is true
But if you decide to call on me
Ask for Mr. Blue

I'm Mr. Blue (wah-a-wah-ooh)
When you say you love me (ah, Mr. Blue)
Then prove it by goin' out on the sly
Provin' your love isn't true
Call me Mr. Blue

I'm Mr. Blue (wah-a-wah-ooh)
When you say you're sorry (ah, Mr. Blue)
Then turn around, head for the lights of town
Hurtin' me through and through
Call me Mr. Blue

I stay at home at night (I stay at home)
Right by the phone at night (right by the phone)
But you won't call
And I-I won't hu-urt my pride (call me Mr.)

I won't tell you (wah-a-wah-ooh)
Why you paint the town (ah, Mr. Blue)
A bright red to turn it upside down
I'm paintin' it too
But I'm paintin' it blue
Call me Mr. Blue (wah-a-wah-ooh)
Call me Mr. Blue (wah-a-wah-ooh)

FADE
Call me Mr. Blue

11. Clarification: Yes, new nominations (better in the subject line, though)
Anything/everything can be nominated. Go with Beethoven's Ninth if you feel like it.

Yes, I'm going for further nominations. Sorry I didn't make it clearer. The old ones were there mainly for reference purposes.

This goes much, much easier if you put your nomination (title and artist) in the subject line, so people don't actually have to View All and read every word just to see what's been nominated already. Don'tchathink?

Thanks!
