The quotable Daily Show strikes again
Edited on Wed Oct-22-03 02:24 AM by 0rganism
Ed Helms: "I may not do much on this planet, but David Blaine has shown me I could do less!"

and

"Why must a hunger strike always have a cause? Why can't it just be about the hunger?"

Worthy of being turned into sig lines, IMHO.

1. I love how Blaine
Makes Millions off his starvation...those who can't escape it just...die. WHo says being the best at something will always land you on top? These poor people could starve Blaine under the table...where's their payoff....is Blaine gonna give them anything? Doubt it.

2. That's "celebrity hunger" for ya
A few billion people regularly miss meals on this planet, but it takes a real celebrity ego to hang himself in a plexiglass box from a bridge while doing so.

BTW, have you ever read The Hunger Artist by Kafka? Now there's a short story... takes the "starving artist" metaphor to a new level.

4. Just watched that bit again myself... all kinds of goodies in there
Jon: "But Ed, Houdini was an escape artist."

Ed: "A Quitter, Jon."

...

Ed: "David Blaine's message is, 'There is no escape.'"

I think Jon used the phrase "hunger artist" directly in the lead-up, yet another Kafka reference on TDS?
