Tonight, my monitor self-destructed

I don't know how else to describe what happened.

I was sitting at the computer, merrily working away, when I start to smell what I'm sure is burning plastic. But I can't for the life of me figure out where it's coming from. So I shrug it off and keep working at the computer.

Several minutes later, I hear this weird sound coming from directly in front of me. The sound reminds me of a combination gurgle and whoosh. Then, I see smoke coming out the top of my monitor!

"Shit," I exclaim as I jump out of the chair and yank the monitor's plug out of the wall socket. Thankfully, the smoke stopped almost immediately.

My next course of action was a trip to Staples, where I dropped $143 on a new monitor--a Compaq 7550, in case you're interested.

You never know what the hell's going to happen next, do you???

1. I misread your subject line..............
I thought it read "Tonight my Mother self-destructed".

Needless to say, I'm thankful that it was just your monitor.
