10. Hey, if you're back on
Great trip--fourth time there. Lots of Americans over there--when I first went in 92, compared to today, there's a huge difference in the number of people who speak English.

12. I was there in January '93
There were very few English speakers at the time. Fortunately, German speakers were not all that uncommon so I could get around. But in several shops we had no common language, and so I had to make do with gestures and drawings. A challenging yet fun experience.

BTW, I thought Prague was the most beautiful city I had ever been in. Just absolutely gorgeous. I'm 1/4 Czech so it was a delight to explore my roots.

13. I agree, Prague's not only beautiful, it oozes charm
I'm considering moving over there for a few years--lots of things to settle, first.

It was weird the first visit, because when you get off the train, all the signs were in Czech, and the language is so different from even the European ones I was somewhat familiar with--it was like a whole different world.

Great metro/tram system even back then, though, so it wasn't too hard to get around.

14. Totally agree.
Very scary almost, when you first get there. At least with common Latin roots, it wasn't too difficult to get around in Italy, France, etc. But the Czech Republic language was an entirely different animal.

You're right, it was surprisingly easy to get around town. Bus stops were clearly marked, maps were accurate, etc. I stopped at a rental counter at the train station and rented a studio apartment for just $12 a day, and it was just a block off the bus line that ran downtown.

Man, I miss that city. If I ever get the chance I will go back there in a heartbeat.

Oh and the subways were so CLEAN! And don't get me started on the incredible beauty of those Czech women...

Not the ook ook part, though.
