Who here has a lateness problem?

I do. My whole household does.

But NO ONE else in my household does. My two faults: 1) I stay up too late (1:30-2:00am, but I'm still functioning by 8:00am) 2) I'm frequently tardy. I'm frequently running 5 minutes behind, so therefore, I am completely inconsiderate of the rest of the world, right?

I am always late, so that just struck me as really funny.

I'm a department manager so I set a horrible example for my staff, but I always put in undocumented time on the other end so I figure they end up coming out ahead.

I am completely intolerant of lateness. It's a major pet peeve of mine. I am in the position to hire people, and if you show up even one minute late I am very unlikely to hire you. I see it as a lack of commitment and respect.

Now I remember. See, not only am I late, but I also forget things. I like to consider myself an absent-minded genius along the lines of Einstein, but not nearly so smart. ;-)

I wasn't a clock watcher, but I was on time for meetings. I basically believe that time is flexible (bends, doesn't break). Of course, I also didn't watch the clock on the backside either....

I always found that there were essential 2 types of office workers....the clock watchers (punctual in both directions) and the clock ignorers. I was in the latter category. As a whole, the company seemed to get more net time out of the clock ignorers.

Funny too, I had probably 7 bosses that I worked for over 25 years....every one of them except one were cool about the "clock". The one that wasn't, was a real asshole and while I conformed, I think he got the least out of me than any of the others.

He says that it is my problem but I think that it very rude to make other people wait for you. If it is for work, this is often recorded negatively against you. Other things go on without you regardless of whether you are on time or not and you miss out. I always want to be on time. This was drilled into my head as a child. Never be late.
As a result, I am all ready to go offering my help and having physical anxiety and he is just taking his time when we had to leave ten minutes ago. If there is any indication that our lateness caused any irritation or if I miss something, my anxiety continues to rise and I feel horrible. It doesn't bother him. This is my problem though, I am told.

but my boyfriend is always late and it drives me crazy. I have been tempted to break up with him because of this issue, I think it shows a huge lack of respect for others. :argh: :-(

There is a girl I know who can't be on time for anything. If you agree to meet at 7 she doesn't show up unti 8:30 PM.

It's work where I have the biggest problem. I am frequently arriving an hour late. Then I'll skip lunch and stay half an hour after my quitting time.

You don't want to get fired. Your boss isn't going to put up with that forever.

He was a person of lateness too.

I can put up with a lot of crap, but lateness just isn't one of them.

It really depends, of course, on the job requirements. In my particular career, it really wasn't important. Getting results, however, were.

Prior to starting my own business, I worked for a company for 18 years....with the advent of computers, it wasn't even necessary that I be physically there and, in the end, I was putting more hours in at home than in the office. The company actually made out like a bandit, because I was available an extra 1-1/2 hours/day that were going into the commute.

My husband works for a small company and works closely with his boss. His boss is almost always late for appointments with clients, like hours not minutes. When I was panicing about my husband just showering at hotel check out time, my husband said that I shouldn't worry because his boss has never checked out on time when they've gone on business trips together. I don't think the boss is a good influence on him.

When someone is late it tells me that they don't respect me or my time. It also says that that the person didn't consider me important enough and thinks that I have all the time in the world for them. Lateness also epitomizes pure arrogance--it's as if that late person thinks that he is important enough to wait forever for.

You don't know what goes through the heads of persons of lateness, though. A lot of us actually do suffer during the period we're late. Our lateness is usually not about the persons of promptness we're keeping waiting. It's usually all about a lack of self-respect.

It says: you don't respect me or my time. It says to me that you are arrogant and think that your needs are more important than anyone else's.

It really can wreck relationships. Again showing up late signals to me that the other person doesn't respect me as a person or value my time. It's the epitome of arrogance. That person is communicating me that their needs are more important than mine and that I should wait for them. It's also very selfish.

1/2 the world runs late, the other 1/2 runs early. Few are "on time". People are human, not automatons. When I was a buyer, I'd have plenty of salespeople show up early and late...it never bothered me in the slightest.

Is because I stopped to do one more thing for someone else which made me late. I haven't any major work issues about lateness, but I agree with you for much of this. I say if 5 minutes to wait is terrible then you have some issues- so here's some tissues!!!!

this time thing, in defense of persons of lateness. I mean, every one is late in most of the world, in many places by an hour or more. Of course the restaurants close exactly on time...

to all appointments. I think being late all the time says something about the entire personality of a person. Exactly WHAT it says, I'm not going into here. :evilgrin:

Would you believe I have clock dyslexia? I can never remember whether to set them 10 minutes ahead or 10 minutes behind.

I my little mind, if I am not 10 min early, I am late.

When I was back in the dating world three years ago, one of the critera was the on time issue. If they did not show up within 5 min they were late and soon crossed off the list-hey guys (this may lead to a thread hijacking) in later age dating in the 40's-guys are in short supply and hold some power. It was cool, not like early dating where the female holds the power.

The woman I did marry, was waiting for me at the resturant for our fist date, and I was my 15 min early! This was the woman for me!!! Well that and several other reasons.

he had the nerve to say to me this morning on our way to school, that I had made him too late to be early. It was 11 minutes after 8, shcool starts at 8:30. this from a 10 yr old. Whose child is this and when are his real parents coming to get him?:crazy:

or otherwise depending on me to be somewhere at a particular time, but I also schedule my life as far as is possible so that no one depends on me to be anywhere at a specific time. I'm late to anything that happens in the morning, always, so I do everything I can to make sure no one needs me to be somewhere at a defined time in the morning.

I try not to be late to movies and concerts and such. That's rude.

They're important. But work? Fuhgeddaboutit!

I hate to be late for anything, so I'm usually early. It's a personality thing, I guess, a leftover remnent of my childhood.

about 15 minutes late. I have 2 modes - early or a little late.
