DOn't you love interviewing potential employers?

I called a place I saw that was advertising for a Marketing Co-ordinator. (Yes even though I regstered with the yacht crew, I'm still lookin' best not to lay in wait for a yacht position to arrive) ANyway, even if they don't post a number I always find it and call...postage isn't cheap right?

So I call to find out more about the job, the girl hardly knows anything and giggles because I'm asking her questions (ones she can't answer I may add.) Then she trys to get out of it by saying "why don't you just send me in your resume, and I take a look at it." I said not quite yet, "I'm still wanting to know more about what I may be getting myself into."

She kept doging me...eventually I found out it's not a marketing position, it's a sales position...learn what job you are posting lady. Anyway, I decided screw them, the girl knew nothing, and gave me attitude for asking questions.

It's a good feeling to know you averted disaster. ANy of the other job hunters out there encoountering morons?

My friend who finally got hired for a good job had appiled for a job through a temp agency. The ad stated the industry and said that it needed someone with outstanding mechanical aptitude and technical skills and said "good pay and benefits." The temp agency made him go through three hours of tests and applications. Then they told him about the job which required doing one simple one step task all day and paid $8.00 per hour. He was rather upset and never contacted them again.

My other favourite is when I see a job that pays say $35-40,000 per annum. And they demand like a masters and 5 years experience. It's like, "Yeah buddy, call me in three weeks when you've given up your search and will take someone with less experience and education"

YEAH RIGHT!!!! Like somone with that much going for them is gonna move to the NWT to make almost minimum wage...egad!

Invest a half a day for a lot of nuthin'

1. They co would have put the phone number in if they wanted to receive phone inquiries.

2. the girl may have have been directed not to give out info about the job (I know our receptionist is told not to give out info. Why? Because the interview process is much like contract negotiation and only empowered individuals should be able to discuss the job).

3. She probably wanted your resume (and your name) so they would know not to call you back for an interview -- since you didn't follow protocol.

There's a whole other side to it that you haven't even considered. Marketing coordinator - that does sound like a sales position to me: coordinating sales approaches and doing it. Makes perfect sense.

Maybe you will get the yacht job which is a bit less structured and no doubt up your alley. Good luck!

Your job, then you shouldn't be hiring. I never follow protocol when lookig for a job. I have my own questions to ask and I'd like to ask them before I waste money on postage.

GOod thing I did in this case...I have some background in marketing, advertising, journalism. If they don't want that fine...I don't want them anyway... I'm not going to be hired as a marketing co-ordinator only to end up selling computers.

But the yacht thing would still be more fun anyway!!!
