2. It's one of the days of the year I totally hate.
And it's all because of MORNING people!!!!!

I think they should keep adjusting through the fall, so that it never gets dark before 9 pm. Who cares about the morning anyway? Wouldn't most people prfer daylight to look forward to, going home from work?

going home from work. I do love it in the morning though, I have to say

7. I'm with you, my friend.
I didn't know if you meant it literally.

But I've been dealing with depression for years. And this time of year is kind of hard for me.

I live in Chicago. Cold and grey. And dark at 4:30PM.

of the blues that are separate and apart from any circumstancial items getting me down.

I really need to move to the equator in winter.

9. Check out the UV lights. Good for treating SADD
Edited on Thu Oct-23-03 06:06 PM by Booberdawg
My doctor got them for his wife for the winter blues due to Seasonal Depression due to the lack of sunlight. It turns on an hour before they wake up and does wonders for her. I think she uses it at night before bedtime too.

16. De-Lights!
Edited on Thu Oct-23-03 06:39 PM by BareKnuckledLiberal
The best arrangement for treating SAD (Seasonal Affective Disorder) is a bank of full-spectrum lights that emits about 2000-5000 lux. You can easily get that by buying four or five regular fluorescent lights, the kind used in bathrooms. Just make sure to get the full-spectrum tubes; check the light output specs. If you want to use the regular fluorescent bulbs, get an extra one or two.

If you shop around at home supplies stores and mount them in a spare closet or a free space on a wall, you can do the job for well under $100. I have also seen project plans on the 'Net for similar things.

Unfortunately for me, my own depressive problems are not darkness-related. But I'm sure I'd make a tremendous recovery if I had a job in the field I worked my tail off to train for ... computer programming ... (*sigh*)

No tail, no job, no money, and I hear that Tony Robbins has the blues, too.

(edited because the original title was way too catty.)

12. I set up a "Florida room" on the south side of my townhouse.
And it really helps!! I keep my window shades open all the time, and raised to the top of the windows. Also, I have a glass 'screen door', which I keep open except when the temp goes below 30. Also, I keep tropical plants and brightly colored prints and fabrics in there.
But if you don't live where the sun comes out most days, I guess it won't help.

And I second the idea of full spectrum bulbs; they DO help.

5. It's my birthday on Sunday, and as a gift to all of you,
I will let you sleep one hour longer. You're welcome. (But I too hate the early darkness; especially in Minnesota where it feels like Norway).

14. Hooray!
I f***ing HATE daylight savings time. I never adjust to getting up an hour earlier, never. My body is not fooled.

Us night owl types are VERY happy about the extra hour in the morning!

15. We get our hour back!
Even though it'll get dark earlier, at least it'll be a little easier to wake up/fall asleep.
