3. I'm happy about the whole thing so far
I hate Florida, and don't like NY, but hope the Marlins do it. They have a payroll less than the NY bullpen.

Does anybody really like Florida anymore? In life or sports?

Fuck the rich bastards in life (I'm still striving).

Things are looking good for our guys, but you can never know for certain.

But you are right. Compare the salaries. New York is first and FL 20. There are 6 Yankees who make more than our highest paid player (Pudge).

NY Yankees: 156,948,495
Florida: 52,538,298

5. I've said it before, I'll say it again, Florida in 6
It actually looks like my prediction will be right on the money. The bullpen/pitch staff has LOST the series for NYY in my opinion. That's who to blame, that and the happy/sad story that is Boone.

6. Met Fan (am I) slog
Edited on Fri Oct-24-03 02:42 AM by deneb
edit: tacked on (am I) to Subject for clarity and 'slog' for no good reason.

On October 30, 2001, President George W. Bush made history by becoming the first sitting President to attend a World Series game in New York. But there was even more significance to the game's ceremonial first pitch, as it was thrown less than two months after the tragic events of September 11th. The pitch was a perfectly delivered strike, projecting an air of normalcy for baseball and the nation, despite the continued threat of terrorist attacks across the country.

7. Grow up..................
Yes, I'm a Yankees fan, have been all my life. You'll "be all over my sorry ass"? How mature. I'm a sorry ass because I happen to be a fan of a particular baseball team. So maybe the Yanks won't get their 27th World Championship this year. The world will still turn. Get a life.

one reason why I love sports is because I can talk smack about other teams and if someone talks smack about my team I laugh it off and join with them.

34. Check out some of the posts
from the Boston-New York ALCS and get back to me - you Yankees fans aren't exactly walking around with clean hands either.

And don't get me started on the whining that took place last year when the Angels sent the Yankees packing in the first round. I seem to recall many "I'm boycotting the World Series!" posts from the same Yankees fans who are mocking anyone boycotting it this year. Hmmmmmmmmm....

9. Money cannot guarantee a championship
It helps, but as the Red Sox and Mets illustrate on a regular basis, you can't buy a World Series win, or even a good team.

Now that George appears intent on getting more involved on the player acquisition side, I expect the Yankees to begin to decline. Some people never grow up or mature, they just grow old. Steinbrenner is one of those people.

Still, it's been a great run.

Too many teams in that position end up losing.

Cubs 2003 NLCS

Giants 2002 World Series

Yankees 2001 World Series

And that's just in the last few years.

not one bit. And Im sure the grizzled vets on the Yankees arent either. We've has some really bad things happen in this series so far. From Fat man Wells (he has been great but dont re-sign him) not wanting to pitch because of his sore back, to ugly bastard Contreras pitching like a 12yr old to Sorryano striking himself out of the major leagues. We can no we will still win it though.

25. Yes trumad, I am a tad nervous
In '96 - '00 that ball hit by Bernie in the 9th would have gone out, game tied.

The Yanks are coming up short and it makes me a bit jumpy.

The Yankee core (2, 20, 42, 46, 51) is solid as a rock; the rest of the team is going to have to "step it up" if they are going to fend of the Fish.

26. If that ball were hit anywhere but the House that MARINO built,
that would have been gone. Bernie hit that thing 400 feet, whaddyagonna do? And Matsui laced into that last pitch. Just pure dumb luck Lee was able to catch it.

I feel good that 'Chokey McGee' Ugueth Urbina, Roper, and Dontelle Willis are completely hittable. The Yanks got 12 hits yesterday. They do that again this weekend and you'd better put a 1 in front of that 4 from yesterday.

that only Pro Player could hold.

It is really disconcerting to see the "breaks" go against the Yanks.

Well, it's back to The Stadium, and with Pettitte & Moose, I'm feeling pretty good (a tad nervous, but good).

39. That's my gripe about Yankee Stadium
It's too easy to knock one out. I'm sorry, but homeruns have ruined the game. It used to be an amazing defensive, statagey game, now you've just got to get a steriod powered hitter (uh, Giambi) to knock one out. Now, I'm not saying that we go back to before the Babe and bring back Ty Cobb style ball, but, the games at ProPlayer (ughhh, ugly corporate names) were much better overall baseball games IMO that the ones at Yankee Stadium.

Of course, the Marlins club shifted the stadium around so that it would eliminate the homerun option, being a young club with little money, they couldn't afford big hitters. They could afford good defensive players, so they designed the football stadium setup to best benefit them. It's an underreported story from several "in-house" sources.

40. The Marlins have a LOT of money...
Small payroll does not mean the team has no money. Jeff Loria is LOADED and Wayne Huizenga still owns JOE ROBBIE stadium. Pudge may not be resigned and then you'll see how commited to winning Loria really is.

42. Now they do.
I'm talking about when they started out in the late 90's. There wasn't a lot of money, just expansion draft players. That's why they engineered the field setup at Pro-Player (Joe Robbie). I agree, Huizenga blew a shit ton of his money on some big names, won the series, but not enough fans, couldn't afford payroll, sold team.

His stadium plan was established in 1990, BEFORE he had the huge bankrolls from Blockbuster, etc. I'm just saying that it WAS setup as a defensive stadium, where big, expensive hitters would be neutralized and not needed. Somewhere between 1990 and 1997, I think Huizenga changed his mind, but that's just my inference. I'll try to find the articles that quoted the "insiders" about the setup, but they're likely long gone. It was like 5 or 6 years ago that I read them.

Jeff Loria were more interested in paying his players than buying art or colluding with Bud Selig.

Because Bud Selig (along with co/conspirator Jeff Loria) actually want to destroy the game of baseball. Steinbrenner, my friend, actually carries the weight of MLB with his revenue stream.

Say, "Ah, ya win some, ya lose some - Waddaya gonna do!"

Of course, I don't think the series is out of hand. We already knew the Yankees middle relief was oogatz - Boston demonstrated that in their losing effort.

What this punk Yankee fan will NOT do:

Disappear from the DU boards for three months from sheer shame and unwillingness to live up to a bet! There's many kinds of punks, I suppose...;-)
