If you were Superman would you fight for "the American way"?
This question may be geeky as all hell, but think about it: If you were imbued with powers, would you follow Superman's path and fight to preserve the status quo? You know, entrusting humanity to do the right thing while you intervene only when accidents occur or villains arrive in town?

I sure as f#$k wouldn't.

In fact, the first time I saw a family living in a car, I would rip the roof off the White House. I'd force the governments of the world to feed their people and abolish war--and if (when) they didn't comply, I would take over. I'd probably end up a benevolent dictator.

C'mon, most of us have pondered this question at least once in our lives--tell me!

1. There was a "what if" comix...
...a ways back, in which Jor-El landed in the USSR rather than the US. Wish I had a copy of it still.

2. One of the saddest days of my life was when I realized
that pursuing Truth, Justice, and the American Way were incompatible
objectives.

3. You might want to pick up the "Superman: Red Son" series
Theorizes what might've happened if Kal had crash-landed in the Soviet Union instead of Smallville.

14. he's not gay...
He's Jewish! All the crime fighters are.
Murry Super-man
Ira Bat-man
Phil Spider-man
Abe Aqua-man
Morrie Plastic-man

But seriously...
Both of his creators were New York Jews.
As are Stan Lee (Stanly Martin Lieber) and Jack Kirby (Jacob Kurtzburg).
As a matter of fact, when Hitler found out that Superman was created by two Jews, he banned Superman comics from Germany.

7. For a brief time, the heads at DC changed it to "the Terran way".
Does anyone else remember that?

And the SNL sketch with baby Kal-El landing in Nazi Germany? "Uberman"?

8. I'd be too busy fighting super villains
Who has time to fight for the American way anymore? That's what the army, the police, and the Justice Department are for. I, as Superman, would focus on what I do best: kicking some super villain ass!

I'd be far too busy kicking ass to worry about The American Way.

Wait - hold on a minute! Kicking ass IS The American Way!

Today, the Middle East. Tomorrow, the world! :nuke:

17. I'd fight for the Democrat Way.
Because it is the American Way. And I'd add a tablespoon of the Green Way, along with a teaspoon of the Libertarian Way.

And that evil Lex "Chimp" Luthor would be catapulted to the moon!

20. Ever read The Dark Knight Returns? In it, Superman
fights for "the American way", but he's basically a patsy for a Reagan-style president. He's constantly out doing police actions in foreign countries.

It's an excellent comic book. Even a non-comics fan could enjoy it.

21. I would have no problem defending the IDEAL of the American way
I the Ideal where:
1) government is by the people, for the people.
2) we defend the underdog.
3) doing what is right rather than what is politically expedient.

There is nothing wrong with the ideal of the american way, it is only that it's been a long time since this country has lived up to that ideal.

22. Kinda OT
but comic books are usually far ahead of others in reading our societal trends. I have read comics in several years, but I always noticed that they touched on topics "mainstream" entertainment wouldnt touch. Frankly I wish I still had the time to indulge in a good comic every now and then.
