Laura's pants don't fit
what is the matter with this woman? Doesn't she ever look in the mirror. She has all the money in the world to dress neat and have great lines that flatter her--instead, she is dressing like she sees a twenty year old she used to be in the mirror-this is really sloppy dress--and what are all those old geezers gaping at?

9. Hee
but some here are also worried about Splenda--

and I was told this is the proper place to discuss Laura's lack of self esteem in her dress.

This apparently is your place to attack those who criticize this frumpy woman's manner of dress. Howcome? Look this woman represents your wife and your daughters or your sisters if they are Americans. She is obviously sloppy and unconcerned about how she looks--these pants are puckered around her buttocks and have no line-any neat pair of pants will be lined and will present a straight line--here, she is contracting her buttocks in an obvious up tight reaction to the photo op--and it looks awful to me-these pant and the short jacket that allows us to see the poor fitting pants are just awful because theyu are not fitting properly. Given her loads of money to spend on making herself look good, I conclude, that Laura is a poor spendthrift--everything she wears does not fit!

10. This Is The Lounge... We're All Fashion Critics Here
This is where we come to forget (just for a moment) about all the other things that trouble us and anger us so much.

I say... LET HER HAVE IT! She's FAIR GAME!

Regardless of whether or not she's the legitimate First Lady... she's there anyway. She shouldn't be given a free pass on style and class. (Neither of which she has.)

"Lane Bryant" and "Harriett Carter" mail order pant suits are NOT the same as "Oscar deLa Renta" or... hell... Liz Claiborne off-the-rack stuff would look better than what she's been wearing.

Nothing against mail order clothes. Just not for the "first lady". She's an embarrassment.

Still garbage. Have fun with Laura; I don't like it. Criticize her, her husband, her daughters - fine. But, we sound like FR when we take this approach to looks and fashion, as they always do. Go ahead, "flame" me - and I hope to see you all on a better, and more thoughtful, post (of which there are many on DU Lounge. Don't deny the fun part, either. This wasn't it).

Just the other day she was publically defending her husband on the whole "Leakgate" business. If she wants to throw her hat in this muddy ring by discussing policy- then any lampoon is fair game!!

Next you will be telling us it is Freeperish for political cartoons to depict Bush wearing an oversized cowboy hat!!!!

and is so vulnerable a Stepford wife that she needs to be defended. Oh good--she does after all represent all of we women-:puke:-however, I still think she is fair game--she wants to be the princess that is adored , then she must live up to the part- and imo she fails-it does not come automatically, just because her husband thinks he is the king and she therefore can think she is the queen. This woman needs to realize she is not twenty years old anymore and dress accordingly if she wants to assume the title of "first lady" and represent the American woman. Come on Laura--you are embarrassing us all.

Her husband's actions are. She is a real non-entity anyhow. A woman that read that "poem" he supposedly wrote does not have much self-respect.
If you don't remember here it goes:
Roses are red
Violets are blue
Oh my, lump in the bed *
How I've missed you.
Roses are redder
Bluer am I
Seeing you kissed by that charming French guy.
The dogs and the cat, they missed you too
Barney's still mad you dropped him, he ate your shoe
The distance, my dear, has been such a barrier
Next time you want an adventure, just land on a carrier. **

*Note: Bush sometimes refers to his wife as a lump in the bed.
**Barney the dog had a tumble when Mrs. Bush was handing him to her husband on a tarmac.

You saw her not her clothes.

When Laura wears a suit it is still empty. So maybe the suit should be beautiful to distract us from its wearer's soullessness.

The first thing I see whenever I look at Laura Bush is the empty look in her eyes.

28. the empty "{dumb" look is what I see
Edited on Sat Oct-25-03 05:54 PM by Marianne
she is perfectly willing to be jerked around by those who control her. (take another Xanax) She has everything she needs and so is not concerned about anything further than her own comfort and I think cannot wait to get out of the photo op limelight. She is not really up to the task. However, her obvious horrendous taste in ill fitting, horrendous fabrics and clothes and her not recognizing how ill fitting clothes make her look like a middle aged frump trying to look like a twenty year old filly, and she obviously does not care how frumpy she looks because, well because, her image is -produced by others that is beyond her control--and that is what this poor unfortunate woman must adhere to. I wonder sometimes, if ill fitting clothing like this, that serves to emphasize her pretense of "youthful" buttocks is not another Rove ploy--hey you freepers, look how sexy Laura is and the poor woman must go along with it. And, apparently some Du'ers also go along with it. Love Laura and her ill fitting clothes because it is not "nice" to criticize this vulnerable little twit of a Stepford wife to the most dangerous man to ever coup the American political scene. Come on-she is a robot and she deserves this criticism--do not give Bush, who is using her, any advantage here. Laura is a robot.

Mrs. Roosevelt may not have been a "beauty", but I'll wager she didn't travel the world in pants so tight that they crawled up her ass.

Plus, Eleanor wasn't a fucking ditz. And she didn't look like she was always in a drugged stupor.

I doubt we will ever see a First Lady again, that had the unbridled energy and drive she had. During WWII, she was FDR's eyes and ears!
She spent thousands of hours fact finding in war zones!

She took up many causes, and was active until her death! A smart, wonderful person that NEVER gave up the dreams of the future.

ER will be missed for gener5ations to come. Wonderful woman, and I'm glad you chose her as your avatar CW! In many ways, you remind me of her.

Maybe that's what she TRIES to do. That's her schtick. It's a calculated and sinister plan to help her "connect" with the women from the "heart-of-america" who are not within driving distance to a JCPenney or Walmart and who can only buy ill-fitting mail order polyester pantsuits.

Or is she clueless? Do her handlers NOT tell her?

He doesn't spend his $ on those suits, others pay for them, he just tries to fill them, (does a damn lousy job of that too).

But she looks like a thrift store bandit! Hell, I shop at thrift stores occasionally, but I use those clothes for working around the house, or yard work, keeps the rest of my wardrobe from wearing out too fast, and helps charity as well.

But if I had to make a public appearance, especially as a head of state, (or spouse thereof), I sure as hell wouldn't show up looking like I raided a potato packing company of its sacks!

And, Laura (Pickles) Bush is notoriously a 'non-entrance' in her frumpy, off-the-rack pants suits from WalMart. Like Jackie, Laura probably receives these garments 'gratis'. (Gee, thanks...but, NO THANKS, WalMart!)

45. Call me shallow
but I like it when First Ladies are symbols of our wonderful American designers. Politics aside, Pat Nixon had beautiful legs, knew it, and showed them off in well-designed clothes. Rosalyn Carter is not a woman who cares deeply about fashion, but, as a First Lady, she chose to wear American designers; and she was a lovely First Lady -- in every respect. Of course, Jackie was very stylish and did much for the image of American women. Nancy Reagan loves fashion and wore beautiful clothes as First Lady. Hillary had mentors and did better as time went by...she seems more comfortable now with all the scrutiny of her appearance. Barbara Bush wore her uniforms, clothes she liked. Nothing wrong with that. I think Laura is a very attractive women who needs to seek professional help with her clothes so she can be a better symbol of American women. I'd rather we weren't seen as frumpy. Being middle-aged is no reason to be dowdy.

50. WTF?
There is more than enough crap on which we can browbeat Bush -- why do we have to pile on Laura, too? I mean, she's not my idea of a snappy dresser, either, but she isn't the one who sent our military into Afghanistan and Iraq to enhance the fortunes of his friends's companies.

And we're piling on her for ... her clothes?

Same for her relationship with George. As much as I loathe the man as a politician, if he and his wife are still in love, that's all fine and dandy by me. I could easily imagine how much worse he might be if Laura hated him and did a poor job of covering it up.

I felt a little of the same way when it was Let's All Spank Jenna week, but at least most of the attacks were slyly admiring of the girl. She drinks ... she smokes ... she's chubby and doesn't give a flying f**k about it ... she screws ... not too shabby a rep to have among horny hipsters.

It's absurd. It's like the "progressives" who insult Rush Limbaugh because he's fat. Maybe we should call Charles Krauthammer a crippled kraut, too.

This is Freeper stuff. Leave it alone.

52. Ease up, after all, it was not the Progressives that...
began all of the spouse/children stuff.

Years ago, it was the Pugs that came up with all of the 'abuse' of those that were in the political limelight. I call it like I see it. Hillary got some advice, and it changed her considerably, (for the better I mmight add).

Chelsea got hit as being the "WH dog" by Limbaugh; Eleanor roosevelt was beat up consttantly by the Repugs. Carter was portrayed as a bucktoothed hillbilly, with Rosalyn being shown as someone out of element. So tough crap on these two morons.

Face it, she looks like a partially painted turd. I see no reason why not to point that out; after all, she, (and all the members of this admin), represent us to the world. If she wants to look this way, fine, buit she better be able to take the heat.

Nancy, (Stickwoman), Reagan tried to look luxurious, but she overdid the "red thing", and looked like a lipstick that broke out of the case. I don't give a flying crap if she showed up wearing a flour sack, you could not cover up the fact she is a mean and spiteful person, with a heart of ice, (a small heart at that).

Bottom line, this is what we see, and if it good enough for the RWnut's to beat up whomever they want for whatever they want, I'm going to call it as I see it, and that comes down to: "Laura Bush has the fashion sense of a twelve year old trying desperately to fit into a mold someone else set for her. She may be a nice person, but what she wears shows her as a ridiculous parody of someone who would much rather be someplace else".

Finally, for those that feel that this thread is "unbecoming" of Progressives, just peek and leave, no ball and chain here.

 :kick:

51. I'm not a 'clothes horse', but JEEZ!
This woman's fashion sense is decidely 'frumpy'. She's a millionaire's wife, First Lady of the US, etc., and she can't even bring herself to discreetly get some edvice about fashion? I know women who work p/t at Wal-Mart who look better when they dress up than Pickles does...

53. I hesitated to post to this thread...
I think you'll remember the reaction to the last one Mariane.

54. pants aside .. I've wondered what caused her upper lip to be so wrinkled?
... they rarely show her with her mouth all frumped up ... sort of like how Red Skelton did his Clem Kadiddlehopper character ...

56. Hey, c'mon, it's hard to look put-together
when you're whacked out of your gourd on Klonopin. Give poor Laura a break - I mean, I'd be poppin' the pills if I woke up next to that...THING...myself.
