6. Actually the secret of Yankee success is
to get Stienbrenner suspeded for a few years.

Hear me out: Both in the 70's it and then in the early 90's he was not allowed to make baseball decisions because of illegal contrubtions to Nixon and then his insane attempt to destroy Dave Winfield. During that time - the people running the Yankees were able to bring along home grown talent and put together a pretty solid ball club - then the huge bucks could be used to fill holes not try and build from the ground up with free agents - which is expensive and doesn't always work (see the Mets and Dodgers).

The core players - major examples being Jeter and Peitte - came up through the Yankee farm system - and had George been in charge he would have traded them off for 33-34 year old stars on the downward part of their carreer - for example say Jack Clark.

His recent moves have been pretty much in keeping with his pattern - their rookie outfielder is 30 - and the farm system is empty and the team is one of the oldest in the leauge.

This could be the start of another long dry spell for the Yankees.

Big bucks not withstanding.

9. Let's see..the secrets to their success..
They spend a lot of money. Of course, it's childish to get after them for it so long as you're a baseball fan, because every team in the majors would do what they do but cannot. See Boston Red Sox for a good example. Tried to win by buying all kinds of free agents, but failed.

How do they get playes like Jeter, Rivera and Posada? Uh, whoops. I'm pretty sure all three of those players came through their farm system or were acquired overseas.

I'm tired of all the whining by baseball fans about the Yankees. Yes, they have an obscene payroll, but if you actively claim to like baseball, you just need to be quiet about them, because your team is an eager participant in the same ludicrous system of overpriced free agents, inflated ticket prices and stadium extortion.

10. Why do you hate the Red Sox so much?
You can't help but mention them everytime you post about baseball.

As much as you think they suck, if it weren't for a bad managerial decision on the part of Grady Little, you guys wouldn't have made it to the world series.

18. Again, funny how you never have anything constructive to say
and that you can't help but bash the Red Sox any chance you get.

Have you talked to your therapist about this obsession?

I never ridicule the Yankees. I respect them as a team, I respect Joe Torre, and I cheer for my Red Sox to win when we play them. How is that bashing?

There is also a great disparity in payrolls that has ruined baseball. it is not the way it was when I was a kid. Until there are caps like in football and basketball, very few small teams with low payrolls will get a chance to acquire decent talent.

20. You never ridicule the Yankees ? ......

right, If I had the interest and time I would post all the threads in which you talked trash and bashed the Yankees, you are one of the BIGGEST Yankee haters on this board, that's a FACT and you denying it is just silly........Next, about baseball payrolls, the Yankees have the highest payroll in the sport, yet they have not won a Championship in 3 years, check the payroll numbers for this year's baseball champion and last years.....it proves your constant whining about the Yankees winning championships because of their high payroll is ridiculous, even more coming from a red sox fan, whose team has a 106 million dollar payroll.........

How many players on the current red sox team are from the team's farm system and how many were signed as free agents?

Can you answer that?

22. Why don't you do a search on how many times I said "Yankees suck" on DU
Edited on Sun Oct-26-03 09:25 PM by RationalRose
Aside from the title above, the answer is zero. If I'm "one of the biggest Yankee haters on the board", why haven't I criticized the Yankees? Gloated when they lost? BECAUSE I HAVEN'T, AND YOUR 'PERCEPTIONS' ARE COLORED BY PARANOIA.

You just see enemies where there aren't any. Why don't you take that rage and direct it toward politics?

On Edit: The Sox had ONE YEAR of a 106 million dollar payroll. The Yankees have CONSISTENTLY had the highest payroll in baseball for YEARS.

25. "The Yankees have CONSISTENTLY had the highest payroll in

baseball for years"

That is true and between the 1980 -1995 seasons the Yankees had high payrolls and yet the team DID NOT WIN any championships....you're always whining on this board that the Yankees just BUY championships, the Yankees are the best team money can buy, etc......the Yankees went 15 YEARS without winning a championship despite having high payrolls.....so, it's only necessary to complain about the Yankees high payroll when they win but there's nothing wrong with the high payroll when the team loses, as they did in that 15 year stretch ?

Since you're always accusing the Yankees of BUYING championships and bashing the team for spending money on free agents......

I'll ask you again........

How many players on the current red sox roster are from the teams farm system and how many were signed as free agents?

Whats the matter ? Are you afraid of the answer?

and spent the remainder of my Sunday evening with my family. I know you wait for my wisdom with baited breath.

You can't buy titles. You can, however, buy division titles. Which enable your team to constantly be in the championship hunt. The Yankees have currently $80mm in Pitching. It didn't appear that way all season but you have to play the game. That said which team could begin to pay that much without paying a single positional player?

The Red Sox payroll was $104mm compared to $154mm for the Yankees. that's not a small difference. Thats fifty million dollars and the Yankees had plenty more in on the general ledger if the right guy became available.

Sports radio (WFAN, WEEI) reported that the Yankees may go over the $200mm mark in free agency. Now that'r REALLY fair.

17. Posada, Jeter, Williams, Rivera, Soriano, Pettite
all products of the Yankee farm club. The reason they've been successful is because they've had the core up the middle positions, catcher shortstop and centerfield locked in for eight years straight.

which helps them win divisions but not necessarily ALCS and World Series.

It's actually nice to see underdogs win for a change.
