Patrick Roy's #33 to be retired tonight....

I think this guy deserved his #33 retired forever. Roy happens to be one of the greatest goalies to play in the NHL history. I don't think most of his records would even be eclipsed for a long time.

If the WIngs had him in goal, we would have won about 10 straight Cups.

The Wings did something like that when they had the previous Best Goaltender Ever, Terry Sawchuk.

Doesn't mind giving "Wah" his props now that he's retired. Damned if I was going to do it before then.

Really a fantastic minder. I can't imagine doing what he did, at the "ripe old age" he did it. He's been playing forever; I can't imagine his records being beaten until we have another young prodigy like him.

I have to admit I'll miss hearing the most commonly uttered phrase in hockey: "...Save by Roy....save by Roy....save by Roy...."

Fortunately I'll still be able to hear the second most commonly uttered phrase: "...Forsberg still has the puck....Forsberg still has the puck....Forsberg still has the puck..." :)

You know Foppa wants to go back to Sweden and play for his team... I think it's a mistake, IMHO. Hopefully the CBA issues will be resolved before the season is over, so there is no lockout.

One thing I REALLY miss about the US is the hockey. I can still watch the second half of the season live here in the UK, but it's on in the middle of the night.

I used to love ESPN's coverage of the NHL.

Roy rocks, what an amazing minder. Patrick Roy deserves this honour in my opinion.

His eyes used to spook me.

When watching the Avs was "God Damnit Roy, get back in the net!" His puck-handling was not his greatest strength.

when he had all those doohickeys on his gear to make him bulkier and to try and stop pucks? Good luck to him anyway. He was a good goalie. I did love Vernon though...when everyone here in Detroit hated him.

As a good Bruins fan, I always hated the Canadiens, and when he was with them, and they were playing the Bruins, it was tough to get one by him.

He deserves to have his number retired. BTW, which team is retiring it?

They retired his jersey here in Colorado; now it hangs up with Ray Borque's 77.

I doubt the Canadiens will do anything to honor him. They didn't part ways on very good terms, unfortunately. Their coach pretty much said he wouldn't amount to much in the NHL.

In fairness though, he was one helluva goalie.
