For those of you on the Federal Do Not Call List

Please be advised that even if your name is on the list, you will probably still be getting calls until the legal wrangling is done. Telemarketing companies are currently not required to abide by the list until the courts settle the case.

The reason I write this is, that as a Telemarketer I'm hearing from irate customers who say that they are on the list and "will sue" ME if I call again. First of all, they can't "sue me" personally as I have no control over who gets called since the computer generates the leads. I hear a "beep" and up pops the name of John Doe from 123 Main St, Columbus Oh. And even if hypothetically the Fed. DNCL was in force they still could not sue me personally. They'd have to sue the company.

But the DNCL is currently NOT in force at the moment. My company has been in the process of purging these names anyway even though they are not required to. However a few slip through the cracks.

Oh and one more thing, many times the people I call ALREADY have accounts w/us and my call is about that, not to sell something. The PO'd types usually don't listen long enough to find out that I'm calling to give them important info about their account(s).

I get the occasional call on my cell phone from folks I have accounts with, but for the most part they leave me alone.

I connect to the web via cable, and my friends all call me on the mobile phone. I used to at least get airline miles, but I don't get those anymore. It had to go. My mobile gives me free nationwide long distance, too.

The decision made sense for me, but, as always, your mileage may vary.

so when they say that they're going to sue "you", they mean the company you are representing. They are not likely going to acknowledge the difference between the two.

unwanted phone calls dropped by about 90 percent. Then we got something called Privacy Manager, and almost no unwanted calls get through.

My take on telephone solicitors is that allowing them to call is a lot like having to let a salesperson into my home. My phone is for my use, not for others to barge in unwanted.

If you can keep your cell phone charged all the time and remember to take it with you (not something I manage all the time) then it can be as good as a landline, maybe better. Now that my computer is on DSL, I suppose I could get rid of the landline, but it's quite convenient. My cell phone resides in my purse, and at the moment that's downstairs, while I'm upstairs typing on my computer. I'll hear the landline, not the cell phone.

Telemarketing seems like good work for someone stuck at home due to a disability or other obligations. Who else would hire someone with facial burns?

Further, at a time when our economy is struggling we are eliminating on an effective marketing tool. If I get a call I don't want, I just say "no thanks" and hang up.

Arizona has its own Do Not Call List, and is enforcing the federal one as a "make sure" precaution. This applies only to telemarketers who call from within Arizona, though.
