Someone is spoofing Riverbend's blog...

I don't know how many of you folks read blogs, nor do I know how many read Riverbend's blog (http://riverbendblog.blogspot.com), but I did want to pass along this piece of info that I got off of Healing Iraq (http://healingiraq.blogspot.com)

Second, some people in the comments section pointed out a blog http://riverSbendblog.blogspot.com, which seems to have been around for a while. I only heard about it yesterday. I am not affiliated with it at all. It looks like an Iraqi or someone from the CPA writing his own perspective on current events. Interesting to read I would say if the author didn't post under Riverbend's name.

The spoof site is visually nearly identical to Riverbend's blog (River doesn't have a flag on hers, and the spoof site is missing the link to The Onion), but the writing style is different. Anyway, just an FYI...

Iraq blog faker unmasked as lovable GOP Team Leader
A lot of people over at Atrios's blog -- including me -- have been wondering what's up with a blog called Riversbend that supposedly posts from Iraq. There was already a very similar site called Riverbend, run by a woman in Iraq, but it didn't have the 'S' in the middle, and it tended to attack Halliburton bidding practices rather than copy optimistic passages from Thomas Friedman.

So when some guy on Usenet going under the names "Troy" and "Diego Gastor" began promoting it in several message groups, those who hadn't read it in a while were confused. They blinked, and meanwhile Riverbend had become really psyched about the war. "I can honestly say now that I'm proud to be an Iraqi. Because of what has happened, because there is freedom here like I have not known before. Now I can talk-to you, to people I could never talk to before. I am a simple woman. I am just a worker. But even these simple things -- talking -- give me hope." Was Donald Rumsfeld posting this stuff?
