Seen the video of the guy being shot at outside Robert Blake's hearing?
Edited on Fri Oct-31-03 06:52 PM by wyldwolf
The guy seemed to dodge about 5 shots close range from behind a tree.

MSNBC has it on Buch & Press next 6:51 EST

I give the lawyer 10 full points for excellent use of a tree.
(though the old guy shooting was telegraphing his shots an awful lot)

13. Answering only for myself, it's funny as in bizarre to me
But this is California. Weird shit happens here every single day.

As a gun owner I'd like to personally strangle the shooter.

23. the visual was funny
the reality was not funny at all, I agree. It must have been terrifying for the lawyer, and the shooter is obviously not well, which is sad.

4. Court TV has excellent footage

Check out the Hooters girl at a phone booth in the background partway through. She keeps talking instead of ducking for cover.

5. That was completely wild
You gotta wonder if the guy doing the shooting knew it was the day for the Blake hearing, knew there would be extensive t.v. coverage, and deliberately picked today to shoot his lawyer. I'm glad the lawyer will be okay, but it was kind of funny how he was trying to hide behind that tree while the guy was shooting at him. I guess he didn't think to run away.

11. The lawyer had a very tough choice to make
Edited on Fri Oct-31-03 07:09 PM by slackmaster
It looks to me in hindsight from the relative comfort of my cubicle that running away might have been a better choice. The shooter did not appear to be a very competent shot, nor did he look like he could run very fast.

OTOH the lawyer did an excellent job of protecting his brain and his 'nads.

16. Freeper channelling Shakespeare (badly)
"First, kill all the lawyers."

Bet that guy is cussing because the damn tree jumped to the lawyer's defense.

(For the clueless, I'm being facetious. For the still clueless, get an effin' dictionary.)

6. Unbelieveable
They kept showing it over and over on Court TV and finally MSNBC picked it up as a breaking story. People were just standing and staring until a guy finally tackled the perp. I hear the victim is going to be okay-incredibly.

12. MSNBC had more video from a different camera a few minutes ago,
totally bizarre. That must have been a .22 with shorts in it, anything
much larger calibre would've blown the poor guy's head off. Glad he seems to be doing okay. But one thing strikes me, most everyone has seen thousands of people "shot" in movies and don't get excited, yet this actual event does seem to be properly perceived as horrific. Too bad we don't see the truth of worse things in Iraq.

My guess is a .32. It was definitely a wheel gun.

14. His defense is going to have a tough job.
"Are you sure it was my client how shot the victim?"

"I don't know councilor, let's take another look at the video tape."

My guess? This never goes to court. They might try to argue insanity, but I doubt it will fly. I don't think people who meet the legal definition of insanity shoot their lawyers because they didn't get a big enough sum from probate. They will most likely take the best deal they can get from the DA and plead out.

20. They don't let people off with NGRI (Not Guilty by Reason of Insanity)
very often. It's almost impossible to get off on that any more. I've seen previously diagnosed Schizophrenics who were hearing voices telling them to kill someone and they end up with "Guilty but Insane." Things might be a little more relaxed in California - but I doubt it (I'm used to Illinois and Florida).
