Poll question: More Pretentious Band: U2 or Dream Theater?
This presents an interesting scenario. While, on the surface, the sheer nature of Dream Theater's "music" (a.k.a. virtuoso crap wherein approximately 3,438,432 notes are played where only one is necessary) would seem to lend them the edge, U2's sheer pomposity, horrible stage names, hideous fashion statements, and lack of any original thought for the past 20 years make it an interesting comparison. discuss at your peril...

7. It also doesnt cost an arm and a leg to go see a Dream Theater concert
Cant say the same for U2! I figured I've seen Dream Theater four times now and the cost of those tickets would add up to ONE U2 concert and that's just for the nose bleeds.

5. I just can't decide. Although I'm leaning more towards U2.
Theirs is just on such a grand scale, so perhaps they win.

6. do you think it may have more to do with their popularity rather than
the nature of their band, or do you think they were just born with that level of arrogance and pretentiousness?

9. Coldplay is shooting for the title
But, as a U2 cover band, they are even less original than U2.

11. more personality, less whiny god bullshit, no unnecessary spanish
a singer who could never be nearly as annoying as Bono; they're nowhere even close to U2 after their Pop tour, let alone now...

14. I was into Dream Theater in 1993. I was not really ever into U2
(never really cared either way about them, actually).

I was a pompous ass at 18.

Ergo, Dream Theater is the more pretentious band. QED.

(Although I bet on a person-to-person level, U2's the more pretentious people.)

16. Does the lead singer of Dream Theater aspire to great humanitarianism...
and zealously publicizing himself at the same time?

I rest my case.

18. Does Dream Theater have really hot guys in it?
That could affect my vote.

I think U2 is fantastic, supposed pomposity and all. All four of them are just so adorable and sweet in spite of themselves, sometimes.

20. Dream Theater
U2 can be pretentious, but always in a way that doesn't bother me. In my world, U2 has always rocked!
