A weird idea for my book
Edited on Tue Aug-09-05 04:09 AM by MrScorpio
Not that I believe this, but here it is:

I was thinking that it was discovered that the human instinctual process (H.I.P.) is something that could be reprogrammed.

The H.I.P. drives humanity to self-perpetuate, controls the sex drive, makes us create societies and habitats and is the key reason why we have created civilization. Wars, strife and mass cullings are merely instances when the H.I.P. needs to reorient itself in a purely Nietzschean fashion.

What we understand as God and his designs on humanity is nothing except a misunderstanding of the H.I.P at work. When we say that we are doing his will to be fruitful and take dominion over the Earth, we are actually doing the will of the H.I.P.

Scientists, using this information, create a population of supermen that takes control of the world and creates an interstellar Empire.

What do you think?

1. Well I think it's purely psychological
We're so much NUTURE more than we are NATURE (even though we're nature to a certain degree)

I've always wondered what it would be like to do an experiment where you "recreate" the dawn of man. Take a bunch of babies and just put them in an isolated environment where they're fed and given shelter, but nothing else. No language, no positive or negative reinforcement. NOTHING. How long would it take for a god-idea to be born? Of course, this would be an experiment that would take THOUSANDS of years to even begin to see results, but it would be interesting to be able to recreate a simulation of how "WE" (meaning, us now) came to be, and whether we would have turned out different had another "first baby" been born instead of the one that was so many years ago.

But don't listen to me. I'm not Roger Lodge, but I am buzzed as all get-out :)

3. Have you ever heard of anything like this before?
The last thing that I want to do is cover someone else's literary ground

5. Can't say that I have....
Especially since you are in the field of Graphic novels...

Play up the intelligent design factor, the superhumans....

One thing I can think is if there really was, in our world, intelligent design, how come they programed so many fucking flaws into the system

8. Maybe our Intelligent Desiner is a fuck up
from the master race... we are just his playthings in a sandbox while he sits in the corner watching the real IDs do their things?

6. Well, touched on in
The Handmaid's Tale, The Boys from Brazil, and H.G. Wells, but not exactly like that, and I am sure there are lots of good puns to be had with HIP.
Maybe some jamoke who translated Moses mis-read rib for hip in the Adam story?

I am sure there are other examples, but since I am not Roger Lodge, I can't think of any right now.

4. I like it
And it's a subject I think should be explored. We're all really Human Bio-Computers in a sense, anyway; who's doing the programming is the question to be asked.

I think you're onto something here, and I think it would make a great book..

7. Since I don't have a scientific background, it's all in raw form
I've already had the storyline developed

What the H.I.P. does is that it gives the story it's MacGuffin
