OMG....I just found out Ibrahim Ferrer died.....how sad

http://www.cnn.com/2005/SHOWBIZ/Music/08/06/ferrer.obit.ap/?section=cnn_topstories

Most of my favorite voices are soul singers, but his voice is one of my favorite of all times - probably about 5th or 6th on my list. It's very unconventional, but it's hauntingly beautiful. It's the perfect voice for a soft Cuban bolero with a lonely horn in the background.

In his 70's he was singing with passion, fire, and a gleam in his eye - and he still had a strong voice even at that age. It's sad to see such a happy spirit and a nice guy die. Watch the Buena Vista Social Club movie and you'll immediately like the guy.

If you ever get a chance, hear him sing "Dos Gardenias" or "Silencio." They're both breathtaking performances. He's also featured a lot on Buena Vista Social Club and The Afro Cuban All Stars.

My favorite songs by him were "Candela" and "Guateque Campesino."

Rest In Peace.

1. To me, he was the star of "Buena Vista Social Club"
So charismatic, so humble, just ... such an artist.

2. Yeah, him and Alberto Gonzales
It's so sad, they didn't get any spotlight until they were 70 or older. That was a lot of untapped talent.

Also, all of them seemed so nice, so humble, so down to earth. They weren't materialistic, conceited, or thinking themselves special or better than anybody else. They didn't have this "celebrity" attitude that a lot of people who become famous have.
