Phrases from the Simpsons now ingrained in American Pop Culture:
Edited on Fri Aug-19-05 02:54 PM by Dr Fate
"Duh-Oh!"

"Oky-li-doke-ily!"

"Woo-Hoo!"

"Don't have a cow man!"

"Worst(insert noun)EVER."

"EGG-see-lent!"

Any others?

What other TV shows besides SNL have started so many catch-phrases?

1. "Don't have a cow" was around for a long time. We were fond of it
in junior high school.

As a way to convince Bart that they didn't care about him, but the guy playing Homer could never get it right.

I believe that is a Homerism.

BTW- Homer is not a satire of the fat lazy stupid American male, he is the conveyor of instructions.

I don't think the Simpsons actually invented any of them
Maybe "D'oh!" and "mmm....donuts", but the rest were in use long before Bart came on the scene.

I remember my brother being fond of Duh-Oh in elementary school, and my grandfather used Okydokily as far back as I can remember. Woohoo has been around absolutely forever, and "Don't have a cow, man" sprung up sometime in the 1980's, and I remember Egg-see-lent from the Cosby Show.

37. I met Nancy Cartwright's father...
...shared a table with him at a banquet thing a couple times. Nancy is the voice of Bart, and he said that she picked up a number of "old timey" sayings from him (the Dad) and they'd find their way into Simpsons scripts. For sure, one was when Bart says "Ninny on yer tintype" and also some of the inexplicable Cockney stuff Bart does... I specifically recall him mentioning those to me.

Too bad Nancy is a Scientologist...

I really love some of the stuff they write for Grampa (Abe) Simpson... "...of course, back then, nickles had pictures of bumblebees on 'em. You'd say "Gimme five bees for a quarter..."

"Respect mah authoritah!" ...oh wait. That's the other kid. ;)
