Poll question: Am I being ethical here?
As I posted previously, I worked as an insurance agent that worked the senior citizen market. I kept a database of my clients, though, and I thought I'd give a few of them a call to see how they were doing. I then thought, considering I'm no longer an agent of my former company, would it be ethical contacting former customers of mine? My purpose for giving them a call is nothing more than to follow up on how they're doing. A couple of them are in bad health. One lady I really struck a rapport with, and wants information about Bob Casey Jr. when it becomes available. Of course, it would be my duty to tell them that I'm no longer their agent. One thing I wouldn't do is badmouth my former company. I think they're a great company that takes care of their clients, moreso than any other insurance company I've ever dealt with.

Would it be right of me to check on these people, or should I just delete my database and move on?

1. I have no professional experience here,
but is it not true that agents and salespeople are permitted to inform clients and contacts that they are leaving a company, and perhaps to say where they are going? There may be a fine line between attempting to solicit clients away from your old firm, but I'd say you are clearly in the ethical zone...

2. I'm not trying to solicit anybody
I'm not even in the industry, and I won't be any time soon. I just want to see how people are doing. :)
