As I travel forward into the great two inches of snow on the ground, it occurs to me that this phenomenom, snow (pronounce snu-oh), is unknown and highly confusing to the people on the road.
Yes, yes. It comes every year, but lessons learned about winter driving apparently evaporate in the hot summer sun.
So, let us remind ourselves and our fellow drivers of the important, yet oddly unwritten laws of the road.
To start:
- Should you feel compelled to drive one mile per hour in one inch of snow, you are better off parking on the shoulder and walking home. You will get home faster.
- On the other hand, if you drive a monster truck and tailgate me, you are likely to ruin your expensive monster tires when you crush my little car. Is it worth it? :P
- When in doubt, take the bus. Do us all a favor.
- If your car has more than a foot of snow on top of it, don't just clear a little spot on the windshield. The flying snow and lack of vision are dangerous. Fool.
- Now is really not the time to eat your breakfast, read a book, call your mom, wrap presents, and (sorry) surf DU. It is, however, the time to drive. carefully.
