1. voting for Toyota's new full size
Edited on Thu Dec-01-05 01:20 AM by Kali
also to kick this before I go to bed.

Have had all of these vehicles. Sure liked my little Nissan better than the "American" vehicles. Excepting an old chevy.

Might even want to think about getting a REALLY old truck (70's) - SO much easier to work on. For the price of a new one you could rebuild and old clunker a couple of times - or buy 5 of 'em!

2. yeah, i heard on the msm
that the toyota trucks went 7 yrs before a critical fix, meaning engine/transmission...while the rest of the truck manufactors, ford/chevy/gmc/dodge all had critical errors within 5 yrs or less...

3. I've had a few Toyota trucks...
They're indestructable.

I wish they still kept them relatively simple; the old 22R/22RE engine was the workhorse of their fleet from 1980-1995. You could abuse that engine 24/7 and it simply would not quit. And when it did, it was easy to repair with basic tools.

I had a Land Cruiser when I was overseas. A UN fleet model with over 700,000 miles on it, and most of that on piss-poor "roads". Even with no carpeting, power steering, or other "luxuries", it was awesome.

6. yeah, i usually hear
good things about toyota....i can't afford anything myself right now, but when i do save up a few thousand i'm probably getting an old custom deluxe, or something like that....i just had a hellish experience with a ford windstar, so i'm shying away from anything ford at the moment, albeit my old ford pickup was decent, but i was always working on the damn thing...but until then, i'm just trying to save $ for a truck, even thinking of trading in my 89 gmc vandura for a truck...the van is nice, but i need a truck for hauling crap, and i have used my van countless times for wood hauling and what have yous, and its such a pain to clean the damn thing when i'm done, and if i had a truck, all i would need is a broom and i would be done cleaning in minutes...:)

9. I'm just about to buy my 4th (!) 4Runner.
Edited on Thu Dec-01-05 02:44 AM by CanuckAmok
This one's an '88; it's the first one I'll have owned from the "first generation" 4Runners (with the removeable hard-top).

here's my last one:

I miss it... it was a divorce casualty. :(

7. Unimog? Bah! how about one of these?
Edited on Thu Dec-01-05 02:39 AM by CanuckAmok
I drove one this summer:

CanuckAmok's rules of trucking:

1) if it's not orange, it's not a truck.

2) if the tires aren't taller than you are, it's not a truck.

3) if it doesn't articulate, it's not a truck.

4) if it can't haul 10 tons of mud at 60 MPH, it's not a truck.

5) if the driver sits lower than 11 feet above the ground, it's not a truck.

6) if it has less than six wheels, it's not a truck.

10. 60mph with the Mercedes turbodiesel
600hp. 4-speed load-sensitive, programmable auto tranny.

$700,000 new.

0-60 in about 15 seconds, unloaded. Don't ask me how I know this.

14. Impressive! More sophisticated than your average Allison for sure!

It's the Mercedez turbo diesels that impress me. Would love to have a new Sprinter.

I can break down and re-assemble most any engine, But a tranny like that? fugeddaboudit!

Vroom!

Edit: re: forerunner, Ouch! And nothing but toothpicks for miles. Good thing for friends. :toast:

11. A proper truck can carry other trucks. Like your lil tonka toy.

Or your entire inventory of pickups and cars

sorry...ex-carhauler bias there

15. Car hauler, never driven anything like that before.
I bet it's a pretty lively load. Unimog's one of the few things I've driven that doesn't have to be dropped by helicopter for the money shot. I'm a big fan of fully independent suspension, and Tonka toys. ;)

5. Dodge re-vitalized design in the truck category
Every design since the mid-90s Dodge owes its origin to Dodge's retro movement.

For that matter, all the retro stuff owes its genesis to the bold move in the redesign of the Dodge p/u.
