I love that show. It's as old as I am, and everyone is either a misfit or a prick.

(BTW, ever notice the voices of Peter Parker and J. Jonah Jameson are all over the place in that show?)

2. yes
I think I enjoy it more than my son does. It somehow wouldn't be the season without seeing that and Charlie Brown Christmas.

However, the sexism and intolerance that are put out by Santa and the Reindeer are hard to take in this very different age. I find myself stunned by those very archaic attitudes about " being different."

But it all works out in the end.

3. Yes, I'm appalled at the message Santa and the reindeer send!
I'm not kidding!

It does work out in the end, but only AFTER Santa can exploit Rudolph's "difference." Only then.

It creeps me out.

Probably a lesson in how the real world works, sadly.

5. nah, I think it was just those weird intolerant 60s attitudes
that people have forgotten about....

I think most people are more tolerant of differences now. But then I may be naive. ;)

13. Santa Claus is a total asshole in that show
I LOVED this show as a kid, but it wasn't until I became an adult that I realized that Santa Claus is almost shockingly portrayed as a fucking jerk. He only comes around to Rudolph when he desperately needs his help, and with no apologies or anything.

I keep waiting for Rudolph to tell the fat bearded man to go stuff his bag of toys up his ass, then storm off to go work for that cool lion king on the Island of Misfit Toys.

14. When we were young,
my brother and I thought the same thing: Santa, the reindeer coach, and Rudolph's father are the biggest bunch of pricks ever.

10. Nobody wants a *Charley* in the box!
God, that thing's burnt in my brain. "Holly-jolly Christmas" will be in my head when most everything else is gone and forgotten.

And my kids are disinterested too. Animation's too low-rent. Kinda makes you sad.

12. I can't stand watching that show on TV anymore.
They chopped the shit out of it to fit in more commercials. You can find it on DVD for under $10 and see it the way God (and Santa) intended.

15. I love the show but have to control myself around the wife
because of all the potential to make innuendo-ish comments about the various characters and scenes.

We've reached an agreement where I have to keep my comments to myself when we watch it on T.V. However, I can let loose whenever we watch it on DVD.

And, yes, even with a DVD version in the house, tradition from our childhood demands that we watch the televised edition whenever possible.

17. Sure,
Hermie is Gay
Rudolph is Black
Clarisse is Janis Ian
Yukon C. is Jewish
Santa is a Republican
The Abominable is the Soviet Union
Rudolph's parents are Ike and Mamie Eisenhower
Sam the Snowman is Carl Sandburg
Coach Comet is Knute Rockne
King Moonracer is the Pope

This show has done more than anything else to advance the cause of equality over the last 50 years...... :eyes:

Why hasn't the RW come out against it?

Rudolph is Mr. Willard.

The Abominable is Mr. Kurtz.

Santa is the Military-Industrial Complex.

Clarisse is the French Plantation.

Sam is The Journalist.

Yukon is Mr. Colby.

All the rest are heads on stakes in Kurtz' compound.

...but when I was a little welp, he just seemed like an elf dentist with a flash haircut and extremely good manners. Maybe jollier than some of the elves, and the only one with initiative to help save Santa and the misfit toys and all sorts of other humanitarian(puppetarian?) qualities.

That being said, notice how the elves in "The Year There Was No Santa Claus" bickered like an old married couple?

41. You mean Jingle Bells and Jangle Bells?
The two elves with the same last name who definitely did not look like blood relatives? I guess the North Pole is more progressive than we thought if they had gay elf marriages in the early 70's.

Being the early 60's, you would have thought they would go for the stereotype, like an interior decorator, or fashion designer.

Oh my GOD, Santa! You really need some Feng Sui in this workshop, girl!
