1. Something handmade.
or put a picture of the two of you in a frame.

Or take pics of his/her kids.

At the point of being rich, make the gift personal.

Write them a poem. Or a video montage of their life.

Stuff like that.

26. You don't have to be! There are tons of craft fairs and websites
with handmade items that are lovely. The Hunger Site and even Overstock.com carry items items made by women's groups and small villages that help pay for schools, health care and livestock for the community. The story that comes along with a gift like that is always nice. Fair trade coffee is another good option.

11. I was going to suggest this.
You can adopt a whale or something in their name, and then they get info about it for the rest of the year.

Win/win

22. You can adopt animals at the zoo
or at rescue/rehab places or you can adopt a salmon and they can follow it up the river and learn where their fish spawned.

Or a book. :P

17. Do they make designer work gloves? I'm not kidding, that's how
bad it is with this guy. They would have to be made of the finest Corinthian leather, hand-stitched by elves, with his initials in diamonds.

Inside there are boxes of raisinettes, snow-caps, and junior mints along with some microwave popcorn and some cute little popcorn holders. Then I gave them a couple of classic Xmas movies on dvd.

28. Cook them something.
Last Christmas we organized a cookie echange in our neighborhood. We had five families prepare 5 dozen cookies each. We all exchanged cookies. From those we made plates of mixed cookies and gave them topeople. It worked great.

31. I bought my family livestock once!
Well, I made donations in their name to Heifer Intl. You can choose what animal you wish to purchase. Then I made a little card for them with a picture of that animal, with an explanation inside. I bought one brother some ducks, another some chickens, and one brother (who is vegetarian) some bees. They all got a laugh out of it.

37. I agree. And your gift recipients will be touched.
I thought it would be cute to give a little figurine of a duck to the person, or honey, or something in that vein. I didn't get around to it but that would be cute.

36. Handmade coffee truffles
Any truffles you make by hand with good chocolate and REAL cream (if it doesn't clot at the top, it ain't cream) will beat anything you can buy. Plus you can make a ton cheap, but to buy the amount you can make would cost $$$. Plus, who doesn't like truffles?

40. Here
I spent alot of years never getting my sister or her family anything because I knew they already had everything they wanted and what I could afford wouldn't be good enough anyway.

Until she got cancer. Then I knew it didn't matter if she already had what I got her, it was the doing something that mattered. And the lip balm turned out to be her favorite.

So just give a gift. Any gift.
