McDonalds bleach powder French fries burns 3 year old
Toddler burned in happy meal Mc-incident

Parents of a three-year-old boy who was allegedly burned by a packet of bleach in his McDonald's happy meal are contemplating filing a lawsuit against the fast-food giant.

Roger Munn says his wife Tanya was sitting in the food court at the Regent Mall a couple of months ago when she noticed something unusual about her toddler's happy meal.

Munn says powder from a small packet marked McD-Sanitizer had spilled on young Simon's french fries. He says the boy's face and hands turned red and he complained that they hurt.

Munn says his wife phoned him immediately to tell him about it. "I was terrified that he had got into some chemicals and I had no idea how much he ate or what was going to happen to him. I just – I couldn't believe it."

1. The powder is super concentrated.
I more concerned about the health of the child.

3. Dear God, I hope this woman dialed 911 first before she called her husband
Edited on Fri Dec-02-05 11:30 AM by Thtwudbeme
nothing worse than a woman who can't do a damned thing without consulting the husband first.

Sorry if that sounds ugly, but people wouldn't believe how often that happens.

Edited to remove slur used because of personal bad memories at another posters suggestion.

;)

5. Ummmm the time to "have discussions" is USUALLY
thought to be AFTER a medical emergency is taken care of.

Ya think?

9. Usually while it's in progress, methinks.
I bet the store followed first aid processes, as outlined on the bleach powder's MSDS. Every employer in the U.S. has to keep these things on file and train their employees in the hazardous chemicals they used; I can't imagine it's different in Canada. McDonald's is too big of an employer and too prominent a company to be lax on this.

Depending on the powder's toxicity, 911 may not have been the correct protocol. ("In case of accidental contact with mucous membranes, flush with water, if irritation continues, seek medical assistance" for instance.)

I further object to your word "breeder."

I suppose I could object to people who can't do anything without logging in under their husband's screenname, but that's just me.

10. I have to answer you under Michael's screen name
I am sure if you put your thinking cap on you will understand why.

I edited "breeder." Did you notice?

I answered this thread as a former paramedic. Chemicals have different protocols per incident. Employees generally don't get tested on Hazmat procedures even though they do "learn" them.

You edited out breeder as I was typing my response and I thank you for that.

I write about this for a living. I do not have clinical or field experience, but employees who get trained on hazmat procedures have more training than most parents, who don't, even if they don't "learn" them. I'm willing to bet dollars to donuts that store called for help.

I worked retail for a long time, and on the rare occasion we had a medical emergency in our store (usually a person falling ill, or a kid dive-bombing off a rack), we called 911, leaving the people free to -- yep -- contact their family.

It sounds terribly ugly!

7. This is Stephanie (Thtwudbeme)
you are right...I shouldn't have said that...

I just used to get so mad at women...and I do not recall a man ever doing this...that had to contact her husband before even being able to call 911.

This child had chemical burns...the only people qualified to deal with those are medical professionals....those minutes ticking off while Mom MIGHT have (the article does not clarify this) would have been painful as hell.

Sorry I used "breeder." It was ugly.

8. I do agree with you. She should have called
911 first. Hopefully she did. I figured you didn't mean to be ugly! :)
