Men of DU - would you ever wax your torso?
Not that I'm considering it - I think I'd rather give birth.

But I knew a guy who waxed his chest in college. Sounds like one of the more painful things I can think of.

:shrug:

7. I would, but only if I were:
1. A model, getting big checks;
2. A pro bodybuilder, also getting same checks;
3. A competitive swimmer (I think that they do this, and if it's the sport I compete in, then so be it);
4. Asked to by my better half. If she said she wanted a smooth chest, then by the good grace of Nair, I'd do it. Especially considering the lengths some women go to to make their, um, body hair either non-existant or...um, alluring.

I'd also not wax. I'd use a less painful method (or front the bills to get them lasered the hell off).

as soon as the bruises went away I got the ingrown hairs from hell. My legs hurt just thinking about it.

And my legs didn't feel any nicer than they do after a close shave anyhow. :( Biggest waste of $13 and a shitload of discomfort ever.

PS Nair smells like perming solution. Chances are it tastes tres nasty, I don't want to find out.

edit: All the swimmers I know shave.

I once let my lover shave/wax my entire body and decided it was awfiul.

I've never figured out why women put up with this kinda crap. And the whole idea of "manscaping" makes me want to puke.

39. So why does Khash dislike it so much, do you think?
Are we talking about sculpting the bushitude into specific shapes, or what? Or is it just one of those things that only guys with an excess of vanity do? (I suspect the latter.)

Damn, I need to watch more TV or something. My cultural radar has an awfully low horizon.

40. Well...in my own case,
I just keep the weeds under control, sorta like mowing your lawn. It's just a preference of mine.

Now, the guys that make shapes, or do things to excess, scare me.

The first time I heard "manscaping" was on "Queer Eye For The Straight Guy".

Maybe Khash just likes guys as is.

43. The ugly truth....
The word is a take off on "landscaping". It refers to shaving/plucking/waxing a man's body hair in order to make him "acceptable" and attractive.

A fairly ugly concept that should be trashed.

50. Pretty much my opinion
None of us can really be what we aren't, so we better learn to be happy with what we are.

The "beauty myth" is incredibly destructive. We need to junk it, instead, as a culture, we only refine it and make it more subtle and more destructive.

how bad it is for the women.

I don't know how they can stand the constant bombardment. One of Mrs R's customers is a "beauty salon" and whenever I go there, I'm astonished at the amount of the propaganda designed to make every woman feel as if her looks are inadequate.

54. Yeah, women get it bad
I have friend who is in her 60's, just short of six foot and weighs 160. She wants to lose 30 pounds so she'll look better. Why? She looks great. And given her age and height losing thirty pounds probably isn't all that healthy. But she won't be pretty unless she does.

Same thing for gay men - if you aren't young, beautiful, and with a perfect body (and white) you might as well curl up in a corner and die.

But I won't accept that. There are lots of people I find exceptionally beautiful who don't fit the "standard". Time to bury it and not mourn it. Call it a mercy killing. Because the beauty myth must die..

Sorry, I'm ranting again.

Khash.

57. No problem with the rant. Mrs R is five-eight and 150 pounds and looks
terrific, but gets obsessive about losing weight now and again. I keep telling her that she'd look unhealthy at 120 pounds, and furthermore that it's unrealistic for her to think she can get that skinny again after having a kid and turning 50...and also, if she didn't look just fine, why do all those guys follow her around every time she goes to the grocery store...

Women get that body-insecurity concept driven into them from a young age. Keep after your friend and try to talk some sense into her.

And your guy friends as well. No need to expand the neurosis across gender lines.

It's been good yacking with you, but I've taken that sixth Vicodin and half an Ambien, so it's off to the Land of Nod for me.

Now in other places it might get a bit painful.

Though I could bet on someone who *does* wax: Ahhnold. Bodybuilder types often do remove their chest hair (if it exists) to show off their handiwork.
