Watching Singing In The Rain. Sigh.
Gene Kelly. My father thought he was a god. Ahhh; the "good old days"...

1. That's my favorite movie of all time, along with
"White Christmas." It's just such fun to watch Kelly, O'Connor, and Reynolds--they look like they really had a good time making that movie.

What's the song where they're talking with the elocution expert--"Moses Supposes"--that's my absolute favorite, and "Make "Em Laugh"--Donald O'Connor is incredible. And Jean Hagen--god, she's absolutely hysterical.

It's just a perfect movie--I can't find one thing bad about it.

And Gene Kelly was a god . . . . O8)

5. Come on... Michael Jackson is the better dancer....
I can't believe people said that for a while...

That MJ was even good enough to carry ol' Gene's dancin' slippers...

Classic Gene....

The three Muskateers....

No musical but oh the movement... The stunts...

Real men can dance... That's what my dad use to tell me growin' up...

BTW, first DVD I bought....

7. I remember that debate. I wanted to kill stupid people.

Didn't Gene and MJ actually meet up at one point during that whole episode? With the"final" smarmy made-for-TV consensus being, "they're each good in their own way, king of their own generation, so we really can't compare"? Shut. Up. I remember Gene being very gracious toward MJ's dancing ability. But honestly, the only comparison ever with respect to raw talent might be Fred Astaire. And their styles are so different, it really is comparing apples and oranges... so again, no genuine comparison. IMHO.

I just got my first DVD player (in my laptop) and have yet to buy a DVD. But I am certain that "Gene Kelly: Anatomy of a Dancer" will have the distinction and honor of being one of, if not the first.

Maybe Reverend Cheesehead will get me that for Cheesemas. I said to surprise me...

8. Gene Kelly could dance to suit the music...
These kids that dance today develop a few signature steps and then mold the music around their rudimentary talent....

Heeyyy, wait a second... did you tip off Rev. C. about my secret Cheesemas wishes? Huh? Was it you?

Hm. I'll bet it was you. Cuz you'd do something like that. You're just that type, aren't you?

Well, if it was you...

THANK YOU!

I got him!!

Woo hooo!

12. Gene Kelly was the more physical dancer. Astaire was the more graceful.
Both were magnificent. :-)

I adore "Singin'in the Rain". A cliche, but they really don't make musicals like that anymore..."Chicago" included. "Singin' in the Rain" is a masterpiece.

14. Admittedly Astaire was the more graceful, and also magnificent.

But another distinction in my mind is that Astaire's dancing all sort of blends together, whereas Kelly has many unique and memorable dance sequences.
