I've finally tracked down a copy of my favorite music video from the 1980s
www.brainwashed.com/common/video/mov/cabaret_voltaire-sensoria.mov

"Sensoria" by Cabaret Voltaire.

I had misremembered it severely - I had only seen it once before today, in 1985 at the old Nightclub 09:30 in DC, the one at 930 F Street.

It holds up well, I think, and I'm happy to have finally tracked even a low-res copy down. It's 21.2 MB, so it takes a while to download.

The director Peter Care has gone on to do a number of other things - big credits for Six Feet Under among other things.

The Museum of Modern of Art bought this video for their permanent collection.

Never been able to find even an mp3 of that song.

Whatever that means.

It probably means I'm an old, old man.

4. Ive never seen that..
... though I am a big fan of CV.

The most incredible video I've ever seen is Dead Can Dance "The Carnival is Over". I downloaded it off one of the p2p things, I never saw it broadcast. The copy I have is of horrible quality, but it is an amazing visual - grab it if you can :)

6. That's funny...
My favourite 80s video is CV's "I Want You".

They had some great sense of visual style. A friend of mine has a really early collction of their videos somewhere on VHS. It's mostly the cut/paste video montages they used to perform in front of on stage. I've been bugging him to copy it to DVD for me, as well as the early Psychic TV and Chrome vids he has.

8. now that I think about it...
...I Want You is my second favourite 80s video.

Nothing tops Herbie Hancock's "Rockit" for iconic 80s music video.

16. Great video, and ripe for an update.
Supposedly Genesis has a reunion in the works. Even though Gabriel & Hackett are included, it might be kinda cool if they did a remake of that song with a new video featuring a puppet Chimpy.

And speaking of political puppets, they need to bring back the old DC Follies TV show too.

15. I used to hang out at the 9:30 Club on F Street in 1985. I used to
see a Cabaret Voltaire video at Cagney's on Dupont Circle but I don't think it was this one.

17. Wow,
I hadn't thought of Cagney's in a while.

It was usually the 930 club or d.c. space for me, with side trips to the more ephemeral places like the Hung Jury.

Cagney's. Wow, you take me back. Must remember the name of that woman with the big mane of red hair.

What neighborhood did you live in?

19. I liked d.c. space, too. I remember a bartender at the 9:30 club;
she played bass in a band that we used to go and see. I cannot remember the name of the band, now.

I was in DC on a college internship. We all lived on 16th St. near Rock Creek Park in a huge apartment complex called The Woodner. After that, I moved up to Capitol Hill and lived on S. Carolina Ave. right next to the Eastern Market Metro stop.

A friend took us to Cagney's one night and we all loved the music they played there. Plus, we got to know the bartender there pretty well and drank cheap.

24. Yeah, statuesque Allison from "On Beyond Zebra" and "Betty"
Edited on Mon Dec-05-05 01:19 PM by swag
was a bartender at the 9:30. I think "Betty" is actually still together and doing some off-Broadway schtick in New York. Everybody had the hots for Allison. Cheeses. She's the one in the middle:

I remember the Woodner because of the great Italian Restaurant Fio's down in the lobby.

I went back to Fio's a few years ago with high hopes, remembering the great food I had had years before, but the place had gone to hell, with a huge Lysol stink, sub-par food, and no wine selection to speak of. It was sad.

I lived first in Columbia Heights in 1983 in roach-infested row-house where water would leak in during rainstorms (we weren't even on the top floor). We finally left after I was nearly electrocuted while trying to unplug a stove that was too close to where the rainwater was gushing in.

Then I lived on Ridge St. NW (down by 5th & M NW and a big open-air crack market) for about 8 years. Finished up just south of Chevy Chase Circle in an apartment building called the Roberta on Connecticut Ave. for two years before I finally got the fuck out of Dodge.

I sure did have a great time while I was there.

Best to you.

Man, she was something!! Not a bad bass player, either.

I had a good time while I lived there, too.

21. I performed at the 930 Club on F Street in '82.
I saw the biggest rat I've ever seen in my life in one of the storage rooms downstairs.

:scared:

Completely new to me, but the visual style is great, and the music is quite enjoyable as well.
