I do post a lot (read: I'm a blabbermouth in the Lounge), and over time have gotten to know folks here, so have made friends with a lot of folks here. I used to hate the Lounge, btw, so I do understand the perspective I think you might have.

What I learned after awhile, though, is that there is ALWAYS room for more on any thread here, and there is no intentional exclusivity here - only goofy jokes and innuendo!

Sometimes people (myself included) do not always respond to posts by someone with an unfamiliar screenname. I try to be friendly and stuff to people who are unfamiliar here in the Lounge.

I get tired of being accused of "being in a clique" because that is the total antithesis of what I believe in.

I understand your point completely, and I share your frustration. I feel especially badly about the perception that there is a "popular clique" here, because I know that, as someone whose name shows up in thread titles and who has made a lot of friends here, I might be perceived as being part of such a snobby cabal.

That bothers me a lot.

That said, a year ago, I felt the same way about the Lounge. I posted here some, and never got replied to. I didn't really get all the jokes, but I wanted to play with everyone else here. Then one Lounge regular started replying, and others followed his lead. LOL - he was banned a week later. Just my luck.

I don't reply to every thread here, and am as guilty as the next person for spending a lot of my time joking around with people I already know. But if someone I don't know replies to me, on a thread I start or in the middle of another thread, I always answer. I have made so many new and incredible friends that way. And I try to get to know people who start threads that interest me, even if their screen name is unfamiliar. I know you do the same. I think it is how we met!! You aren't in a clique anymore than I am, darlin'!

Sometimes someone in the Lounge can say something that is awfully good for your ego...a good way to wind up the evening, and I'm doing so happy from my conversations with numerous DUers, that wonderful compliment from Shari, and a laugh-out-loud snarkilacious comment (pointed right at me, and hilariously so) by Rev. Cheesester.

it's a big community, so of course people make friends and don't know everybody as well as they know them. It just takes time and effort to break out of the pack a bit.

It really helps to post to a group and get to know some people that way- I think I still wouldn't really know anybody if it weren't for the VVAR group and people I know from the CA forum and associated meetups.

I haven't experienced it as 'cliquey,' but I probably don't post often enough to notice. What I've found is there's a HUGH amount of sharp, witty, and rapid-fire humor in the Lounge. It's like the reality-check underbelly of all that's great about DU. Popping in for a much needed laugh, whether reading or posting, is great.

During the elections, I wrote a bunch of longer stuff and was an advocate for a particular candidate - even ended up going to Boston.

Now I just want to inure myself into the sociology of the lounge and have fun.

are just DU'ers that have met at a meet-up. I've never found them to be exclusive, which imo is the most important rule of any clique. Quite the contrary, most are very inclusive. I do find that the longer you're is here, the more people get a sense of you, the more you get replied to.

I feel much warmer, more socially acceptable, and generally less like a hermit in a 10 x 10 foot shack writing manifestos on an old typewriter now.

Everyone posts stuff that goes nowhere. And, sometimes it goes nowhere except for a few replies from folks we know personally, and the replies are courtesy posts so that a friend doesn't feel bad.

It ain't no thing! Just keep posting to your heart's content. When you touch a nerve, you'll get support or rebuttal. If you don't, then maybe next time! It's all good and you should never take it personally.

I know a bunch of the people from Minnesota, where we've had quite a few Meetups, but of course haven't met many of the people from the lounge. I know Lydia Leftcoast, and no name no slogan, and bushwentawol, and SmileyBoy, and katinmn, and bvar22, and quite a few other locals.

I guess DU is going to have to start sponsoring national or regional Meetups so we can all get to know each other!
